Vehicle Detail
Selling my Viper Red 1965 Mustang because my wife now considers her as my mistress. She’d rather I spend my money on Diamonds and flowers for her, rather than parts for the Mustang.Vin: 5F07C660467 Originally this car came with a 289, but was upgraded to a 302 (I did not do this upgrade). The engine is from a ‘74 Maverick and uses regular unleaded gas. It is a 4 speed top loader transmission with Hurst shifter. The brakes are four wheel drum.I purchased this Mustang last August and installed the following NEW items:Clutch4 Core Aluminum Radiator - Upper and lower radiator hosesSteering LinkageElectronic DistributorEdelbrock ManifoldOil PanOil Pump and Pickup screenFront ShocksFront 1” Sway BarThermostat Speedometer CableTailhousing seal (drain and replace transmission fluid)Valve Cover GasketsParking Brake CablesValve Stem SealsDrivers and Passenger side mirror (Installed after pictures were taken) Currently the car starts up without any issues, however, I believe the nylon cam guide is breaking up as I am finding plastic pieces in the oil pan. Originally I thought they were old valve stem seals, however replacing all the seals confirmed that these were not the culprit. In any case, it seems like these pieces are causing low/no oil pressure, as I imagine they are gathering around the oil sump screen and blocking the flow of oil.The car did run with low oil pressure on and off for about 40 minutes total, which was about 5 test drives to test and adjust the new clutch. Like I said the car does run. After I replaced the oil pump, I had pressure again, and at the time I adjusted the valves, I primed the new oil pump and made sure oil was flowing from the valve pushrods to the rocker arms, so the engine was running with proper lubrication, however I am hearing a tapping noise which could be a stuck valve, slack in the timing chain from the broken nylon guides or the timing is off and a valve is opening on a piston. The sound seems to be coming from the front, so I am leaning toward the timing chain. The only other items that would need work is the driver’s side window rolls up to about ½ inch from the top, and the brakes need to be adjusted, as they pull to the left when you press hard on them and it will need an alignment since the steering linkage was replaced with a new one.Bottom line is this great looking car, with a recently new paint job that shines like it came off the lot yesterday. The seats and floors are new as well. The cherry bombs sound like a like a muscle car and causes heads to turn! The gears are not sloppy, with the toploader shifting easy and the new clutch is nice and smooth. The doors close with no problems and the hood is flush with the quarter panels. There are no fluid leaks from the radiator, oil pan or transmission. If you are comfortable with working on small blocks, you can get this purring for a few hundred dollars. With as much as has gone into this car, it is a steal at this price. I just don’t have the time to complete the work that needs to be done, so my loss, your gain. This is for local pickup only in Simi Valley, California and will require a flatbed or trailer to transport. There is a $100 Deposit due at the end of auction and final payment must be made via Cashier’s check with cleared funds before the title is released. If you have any questions, please ask, and I will answer to the best of my ability. Thanks for looking and good luck!
