Vehicle Detail
1977 Datsun 280Z 2+2 Coupe One Owner Classic Sports Car Auto Restoration Project Up for sale is this one-owner 1977 Datsun 280Z 2+2. The owner purchased the car new and has the original window sticker and many service documents for this vehicle. The car has been stored since 1997 and has not been started or driven since then. This will make a great base car for a Z restoration project. The odometer shows 147,340 one-owner miles and the vehicle has a clear title. The fuel-injected inline 6-cylinder motor is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine was rebuilt at 100,000 miles and was overbored slightly. The engine currently has a blown head gasket. The original transmission was removed in 1994 and replaced with a like-new auto trans from a different Z car. The exterior is light brown in color and there is rust on many of the body panels. The car was Ziebart rust proofed twice during its early years, and much of the rust occurred during the last 15 years of storage. The rear wheels of the vehicle will not turn, the owner suspects the break linings have solidified, locking up the rear wheels. The rear tires have rollers underneath them so that the vehicle can be rolled. The car does not currently have a battery. The final three photos in the gallery below are scans of photos provided by the owner, showing this exact Datsun "back in the day," circa 1980. It is rare to come across a 1970's Z still in the possession of the original owner; if you are looking for a solid Z project with a documented pedigree, don't let this car get away from you!
