Vehicle Detail
1977 AMC Hornet AMX, registered as 1 of 156 known to exist in the world, and 1 of only 32 Alpine White cars known, according to the online registry. The Hornet AMX was only avaliable one year ('77) by selecting a $799.00 option package which added the visual appeal of lower fender flares, a front spoiler, brushed aluminum targa roof band and body color rear window louvers. Also part of the package were bumpers painted the body color, not urethane coated as some reported at the time. Much of the car's exterior trim was blacked out including the grille (except for a thin silver border), side window frames, dual side sport mirrors and rear body tail light panel. Unique outward identification consisted of large in-motion "AMX" graphics on both lower quarter panels. Another option was a large Trans-Am inspired flaming hornet decal was available for the hood. Large bullseyes were found on both ends of the targa roof band on every Hornet AMX, an apparent reference to the model's distant Javelin heritage. This actual car is a very special car, as it only has 48k original, documented miles, and was a ONE OWNER car that has been garage kept its entire life when I bought the car earlier this year, from the lady that has owned it for all 35 years! This car has always been garage kept, and it shows... I can see NO RUST anywhere on the car. This car was factory undercoated so it is super solid. There was 1 repaint of the original color, but not because the car was ever wrecked or rusted, it was because several years ago a tornado ripped the garage roof off and the car was scratched up by debre! The car was nicely repainted shortly after. Paint looks very nice, only thing that I thought still needed attention was drivers side door could be lined up better, and trim on back and front bumpers were pained on, as replacements apparently could not be found years ago at the time of repaint. This car was last tagged for street use in 1986, in Kansas City, Missouri, however car has been kept in running condtion over the years, even though it just sat in the garage. Since buying this car, there has been a lot of work put into it to bring it to how it looks and drives today. The tires are new, the battery is new, the spark plugs are new, the cap and rotor have been replaced. Also recieved a fresh oil and filter change as well. It starts right up and runs good... There is some lifter ticking, due to the car sitting in garage since '86, but has cleared up a lot in the few hundred miles I have put on this car since getting it back on the street again. All the lights work, even all the inside lights, blinkers work, wipers, AM radio, it all works! This car is not perfect, but it is in VERY NICE shape, especially for its age, and would draw a crowd at any local car show... Not to mention you would have the only one there! I have tastefully decided to add the factory HORNET hood decal, as it was an original option avaliable for this car, and it looks awsome. I also replaced the factory turbine wheels with these awsome factory AMC 5 spoke "MAG" wheels with volcano caps, another great looking factory option for this car. The black interior is all original, and is in great shape. No cracks in dash, perfect headliner, nice seats, carpet is nice and shows very little wear. Passanger seat back sits back a little further than it should, I have never looked into it. Rear seats fold down to allow for a large hatch storage area. Factory louvers shade from the sun, and give the car a timeless look. All the guages seem to work correctly, even the dome and courtousy lights and key buzzer still work when you open the door... This car is like a time capsole, it looks and drives like a true 48k car should. You can fly into KCI Airport and drive this car home, it drives that good. Documentation is everything, and this car has plenty of it! This actual car was sold new at Pete Franklins AMC in North Kansas City. I have the original window sticker, dealer invoice, payment book with payment stubs still attached, warranty paperwork, factory service log with dates and mileage log of everything ever done to the car, down to gas fill ups and how many gallons were put in! It also documents the mileage the whole time since new, so that 48k original miles is DOCUMENTED! I also have factory to dealer papers, new car paperwork, and every reciept for this car since 1977! I have documented and displayed everything in a nice binder, and it all goes with the car. That book would be great to show alongside the car at car shows, however I have never shown it anywhere. This car really hasent seen the publics eye since 1986. I am the second proud owner of this car, I have a clean Missouri title in my name, and car is currently registered. I drive this car and it is very enjoyable to drive. Its a good handling car with plenty of power (respectivly), and EVERYONE turns their heads for this one... This is truely a special car, low production, killer looks, and a nice, clean, rust free, low mileage example in beautiful Alpine White... If your looking for a nice respectable classic car to enjoy this summer, look no further! Not to mention, this actual car could be the most documented one in exsistance, as I have all the important paperwork listed above.
