Vehicle Detail

1988 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R, 125,000 miles. Black on black. Less than 5,000 miles on NEW FACTORY BOTTOM END - Not rebuilt, but NEW FACTORY CRATE bottom end. It also has the same 5,000 miles on a rebuilt top end. I had a love of these cars ever since I was selling them new as a Mitsubishi & Dodge car salesman back in the 80's. I never got around to purchasing one though until I purchased this car back in 2000 with a bad top end and had the intentions of making it a polished gem and look like new again. I had a friend who was a mechanic at Mitsubishi and specialized in the StarQuests and he rebuilt the top end for me. While he had it apart, he saw there was still an open recall on the rod bearings. He worked out a deal with his dealership that instead of replacing the bearings, he was able to get an entirely new factory bottom end and I just paid a few hundred dollars difference. After I got the car running, I drove it as a daily driver for a while until it developed a power steering fluid leak which dripped right on top of the exhaust pipe and stunk horribly. I parked the car until I got around to fixing the power steering leak. Then life got in the way (mainly, I got married and had kids!) and priorities changed and I never got back to it. I fired it up once every 2 or 3 months and drove it for short runs to the store and back until the clutch cable snapped. That was back in 2005. Since then it has been sitting. Last year I rolled it into my garage to start working on it and get it going again and as much as I still love this car and get goose bumps every time I see a clean StarQuest driving down the street, I have just really lost interest. The body is clean with the exception of a small dent on the top right fender where something fell from my garage rafters and dung it pretty good, and it has the normal front valance damage from previous owners hitting curbs in the past. The paint is also very faded and peeling from sitting in the sun for so long. Being a California car, the body is completely free of rust and is solid. The interior is clean with no rips or tears. I took the dash apart with the intentions of installing an indigo gauge kit I bought off Ebay for $100 but I have not yet installed it and the dash is still apart (I will include the indigo gauge kit with the car). The front seats have been removed simply for cleaning and vacuuming the interior but have not been reinstalled, they are here with the car. I siphoned out all the old fuel from the tank and put in new fuel and tried to start it, but it will not start. I checked the fuel line and it is not getting fuel to the injectors so I expect it is the fuel pump or relay. It will also need new tires in addition to the clutch cable. I have been offered $2000 for just the motor, but I dont want to part this car out. I want to sell it complete in hopes that the next owner will have the same passion I use to have and bring this car back to life again. On May-21-12 at 10:38:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Updated 5/21/2012I have been educated by a fellow E-Bayer that this car has a hydraulic clutch and does not have a clutch cable, so my statement of a broken clutch cable is not correct. I was assuming it was a clutch cable issue because when I went to drive the car after it sat for a number of months, the clutch pedal resisted and was hard to step down, then it suddenly snapped and went all the way to the floor. The pedal now has absolutely no resistance and sits at the floor. I haven't looked into it to know exactly what the problem is, but I now know it is not a clutch cable issue. Now knowing it is a hydraulic clutch my guess would be more of a clutch cylinder issue, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
