Vehicle Detail
I purchased this vehicle for my wife in October of 2009, new from the VW dealership. The biggest problem we have had with this vehicle is that it is way too much fun to drive. The 2.0L Turbo charged diesel engine produces 236 ft-lbs of torque, and 140 hp at 1600 rpms, and the German suspension, and running gear make it handle like a dream. It will hold its' own with most anything on the road, and still average 40+ MPG (when you're not racing) in the process. The main reason we bought it was because Consumer Reports had it listed as one of their "Best Buys", and one of their "Safety Picks" because of it's crash test results. It has not disappointed us. We have really enjoyed the vehicle, and would not be selling it except for the fact that my grandchildren are now approaching 6 ft tall, and around 200 lbs each, and can't get comfortable in the back seat. Don't confuse the 2010 Jetta with the 2011 and 2012, because in 2011 VW decided to take steps to reduce the price of the Jetta, and in order to do so, then cheapened the interior considerably, and changed the running gear. As a result, the Consumer Reports rating for the 2011 dropped 16 points from the 2010. To replace the Jetta with something a little roomier, my wife and I considered the Passat TDI but when we drove the 2012, we realized it didn't hold a candle to our 2010 Jetta, and opted for a 2012 Toyota RAV-4 SUV. We sure hate giving up the economy of the TDI, but we had to have the space. Vehicle Condition: I can honestly say that this vehicle is in excellent condition. The only current damage to the vehicle is on the front bumper, where someone at the mall parking lot pulled too far into the parking space in front of it, and bumped the bumper, chipping the paint on the front bumper. You should be able to see this in the photos. All service events were handled at the dealership up to the 40,000 mile oil change, which I performed myself. I use only Amsoil synthetic for European Diesels in this vehicle, and the highest grade filters available. The tires currently on the vehicle are the original tires, and will need to be replaced soon. I would guess that they have another 4000 to 5000 miles left on them. Warranty repairs: After we purchased the vehicle, there were 4 warranty repair incidents: 1. the 115v inverter that came with the vehicle had a defective plug and my grandson's laptop would not stay plugged into it, so it had to be replaced. 2. The rear armrest/cupholder/passthrough device, in the rear seat, would stick in the up position sometimes, so that was replaced. 3. We had a very slow coolant leak that was finally traced to a damaged hose nipple on the oil cooler, so the oil cooler was replaced. 4. There was a recall concerning the need for a pressure damper to be installed on the fuel injector feed lines, to reduce the possibility of a fuel line rupture. All of these were handled by the VW dealership. We have not had any issues since those were resolved. Accident report clarification: There is a Carfax report on the vehicle that indicates that it was in an accident, and was disabled. The indication that the vehicle was disabled is inaccurate. There was some damage to the front end and the hood, when a guy in an SUV pulled out in front of my wife and she made contact with the side of his vehicle. The damage was limited to the front bumper, hood, head lights, etc. Since I was not there to inspect it, to insure the radiator was not damaged, I told her to have it towed into the dealership for inspection. Her speed was such that the airbags didn't even deploy, but the taller SUV caused quite a bit of skin and component damage to the front end. I insisted that all the damaged parts were replaced with Volkswagen OEM parts, rather than repaired. That meant that we had to do without the vehicle for a couple of weeks, but insured there was no "bondo", hidden beneath the paint, to be concerned with. I have an itemized list of everything that was replaced, and the name of the body shop that did the repairs. The body shop we used is a preferred provider for Allstate Insurance, which means all of their work is guaranteed by them and Allstate. This vehicle books out on NADA at a Trade in Value of $19,200 (clean), and $18,000 (average). I'll be glad to provide information as needed. I will accept payment in cash, or Cashier's Check. Pickup or shipping of the vehicle will be the responsibility of the purchaser.
