Vehicle Detail
1999 Ford Windstar LX, 3.8L V6, Automatic Transmission, 183,000 miles, clean condition inside, some scratches outside (see photos).I'm the second owner, and have owned it for ~10 yrs. Features:cruise controlpower steeringpower brakespower windowspower locksa/c (blows cold)driver side electric seat adjusttinted windowsroof rackseats are removable. All in good shape.stereo replaced with new factory Ford double-DINN-sized CD/cassette/AM/FM + MP3 (and probably WMA, etc.) player. Works perfectly. Maintenance:tires new Dec 2011, tread 80-90%alignment Dec 2011. Tracks perfectly straight.brake pads and rotors milled Dec 2011. Still nice and smooth, no noise.alternator replaced Jan 2012 new main blend door (heater) motor Nov 2011new plugs, wires, coil June 2011battery Aug 2010master cyl and brk fluid Apr 2010pwr steering rack assembly and steering fluid Jul 2009transmission replaced at 122,970 miles. Works perfectly. Issues:Head gasket was leaking recently, causing check eng light and rough running, plus slow coolant loss.I used "Bar's Leaks Professional Carbon Fiber Block Seal Head Gasket & Cooling Sealant." This fixed the coolant leak and check eng light. It runs well, but there is a slight, discernible chugging while running at constant speed between 1100-1600 rpm (i.e. in top gear at 40-50 mph). Smooth while accelerating and decelerating, and while running at rpm's over 1700 (i.e. highway speeds).Other discrepancies include:- During warm weather, the ABS and Trac Off lights will illuminate simultaneously. In this condition, you will not have anti-lock brakes or traction control active. A non-issue for me, and I have driven it like this for 2+ years just fine. In cold weather, the lights don't come on at all, and both features will work. In moderate weather, they come on after 10-20 minutes of driving.- Passenger-side electric window does not work. Stays in up position.- Rear electric windows usually work, but generally not if parked with the sun shining on that side.- Most power locks work, but some are predictably non-compliant going either up or down.- Rear wiper is also notoriously lazy. It has been working lately, but occasionally goes on strike.- Front windshield wiper fluid shoots out crazy on driver's side of windshield, because I broke the plastic nozzle while scraping ice three yrs ago. I just go fast (50+ mph), then dispense wiper fluid, so it shoots onto the windshield and not onto my neighbor. Summary:On the whole, I would say the head gasket issue is the only thing you should be concerned about. The product I used gets great reviews, but there's no guarantee how long it will last. The other issues I dealt with just fine, using the van as a daily driver and great utility vehicle. Trans, steering, brakes, tires, are all performing perfectly, and the engine doesn't lack for power, so the driving experience is not bad. This is a no-reserve auction starting at $1.
