CLASSIC CARS LTD. ABOUT THE ALFA ROMEO SPIDER VELOCE The Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced at the 1966 Geneva Motor show, receiving rave reviews. The car was designed by Battista Pininfarina, founder of the Turin based design house, and designer of a wide range of Italian exotic automobiles. Over the years, numerous changes were made to the car, and the styling remained very pleasing even in light of increased requirements for stronger bumpers, and safety equipment. The mid-1980's brought the square tailed cars with front chin spoilers, subtle rear trunk lip spoilers and larger side view mirrors. Unlike some of the other European sports cars, the lines of the Alfa matured very gracefully, until the end of the production of the Alfa Spider in 1993. Early Alfa Spider's were equipped with 1600 twin cam engines which were later increased in size to two-liter, fuel injected versions. The larger, current engines, proved to be very reliable, and offered excellent drivability, torque, and good overall performance for a small convertible. The 1992 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is equipped with the considerably more desirable features including the following: * 2.0 Liter (1962cc) Twin Overhead Cam Engine * Fuel Injected Engine * 5-Speed, Fully Synchronized Transmission * Electronic Ignition * Independent Front Suspension * Front Anti Sway Bar * Power Assisted 4-Wheel Disc Brakes * Steel Belted Radial Tires * Air Conditioning * Power Windows * Beautiful Black Leather Interior * Adjustable Head Rests * Electronic Tachometer * Water Temperature, Oil Pressure & Voltmeter Gauges * Padded 4 Spoke Sport Steering Wheel * Driver's Side Air Bag * 2 Speed Electronic Washer/Wipers * Dual Side View Mirrors * 50 State Version - Catalyst System * Locking Vent Windows * Day/Night Rear View Mirror * Tinted Glass * Striking Factory Spider Alloy Wheels The last body style of the Alfa Spider Veloce is considered by many to be the "Best of the Best", in Alfa Romeo convertibles. They are comfortable, fun to drive, and offer very attractive styling, at an affordable price. Unlike many of the earlier British roadsters, the Alfa's offered increased refinement, performance, and reliability, as well. They also came with improved "creature comforts" including air conditioning, power windows, nice sound systems, power steering and beautiful interiors. "Opening up" the car to the sky above is simply a matter of undoing (from the driver's seat) the two latches from the windshield area, and pushing it back to the rear storage area. Instant convertible! Considering their size, the Alfa Spider even offered ample trunk space for those long weekends on the coast, or to your favorite holiday destination. By 1992 the Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce carried a sticker price of $25,734 and the delivered price to the cars new owner would have approached the $30,000 mark (Note: these cars carried a premium and many were delivered with pricing mark-ups over retail). Needless to say, this represented a very costly vehicle "in the day." HISTORY OF THIS 1992 ALFA ROMEO VELOCE This Alfa Spider Veloce was delivered to Roberts Alfa Romeo, Dealer # 6406 and still part of the cars documentation includes the original window sticker (more on that later). The cars mileage of 20,380 is 100% supported by the Car Fax history report (available upon request to serious buyers) that chronologically documents the cars miles. Frankly, one look at this Alfa tells the story. It is, simply stated, the lowest mileage, best example of a late model Spider Veloce that we have had the pleasure to represent and this is quite a statement considering that we have had over 25 Alfa's! This Alfa represents an unbelievable "Survivor" and is an example that we expect will be very desirable to the true Alfa enthusiast and the discriminating buyer that is seeking an extremely low mileage Spider Veloce. The car has the appearance of a virtually new car. Additionally, the beauty of this Alfa is that it has had NO modifications and remains 100% as it was when it rolled of the production line. Finally, the Spider Veloce is fully equipped with several unique features and finished in a beautiful, subtle color combination that is absolutely striking. In addition to the long list of standard equipment features, this Alfa includes: - Optional Silver Metallic Paint - An Alfa Romeo compact CD player (Trunk mounted with Alfa logo) - Rear top / parcel convertible top boot - Car cover Additional specific details regarding the car's cosmetic and mechanical condition can be found below. ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ALFA ROMEO SPIDER VELOCE This 1992 Alfa Romeo Veloce is an outstanding well maintained example. We regularly seek out exceptional Alfa Romeo's but this one is a highly unique Spider. Frankly, this particular Alfa car stands out as being a special example for a number of reasons that will become apparent to the Alfa enthusiast. Often times, it is the details (both in terms of mechanical and cosmetic care) that separate a high quality Alfa Spider from an average, or below average car that will have significant, costly "needs" in future years. As they say, "The Devil is in the Details." Consider the following realities of this beautiful Alfa Romeo Spider: * One owner from 4/16/96 to when we (Classic Cars Ltd.) sold the car to its current owner * Since the sale of the car to its present owner just 1 ½ years ago, the car has been driven fewer than 1,500 miles * In total, the Alfa has been driven just 20,380 miles (Driven 1,000 miles per year!) * During the current ownership the car has received regular maintenance and updates (more on that later) * 100% supported by clean Car Fax & records * Always maintained (Frequent maintenance service) & started / run on a regular basis * NO rust or body damage * Very straight body with beautiful high gloss paint * No previous or current accident damage * Includes documented maintenance history * Original delivery documents come with the Alfa, including: - Alfa Romeo Watch!! (Refer to photos) - The Original Alfa Romeo Folder (complete with perfect Alfa enameled badge logo) to hold all documents - The Owner's Manual - Original "Owner's Log" - Original Warranty Booklet - The Audio System Owner's Manual - Authorized Dealer Directory - Original Equipment Tire Brochure - Rust Penetration Warranty Booklet - Maintenance Program Booklet - Spider - Consumer Information Brochure - Original touch-up paint stick NOTE: The documents appear new and never opened * Two sets of original Alfa Romeo keys * Original spare & Jack * Original canvas convertible top (clear window) in serviceable condition * Upgraded AM/FM & CD sound system (removable faceplate) * High quality car cover (Used in garage.car never stored outside) * Original Spider Alloy Wheels in excellent condition * Well maintained & serviced by previous owners * Original / numbers matching engine & transmission Not only is this Alfa a rare find due to the extremely good condition, but also, it has never been exposed to the salt and inclement weather that is so prevalent in many parts of the United States. This has been strictly a weekend car that has seen very limited, but regular use over the course of the several years. It has been only hand washed and waxed, as needed, and professionally serviced and detailed. Of course, the Alfa has always been garaged and truly pampered by its owner. We ask that you take a close look at the following areas on this particular car. We have enjoyed owning over 30 Alfa's and have never seen one that is this original, clean and unaltered. Please note the following: This car retains the original factory "markings" in the engine bay. The engine has not been washed or prepared and remains as it came from the Alfa Romeo factory. Items like the stainless exhaust shield, hoses, belts, under hood stickers and rubber items appear as new. BODY /TRIM / TOP The body is finished in its original silver color. To our way of thinking the Alfa Spider is truly elegant in the rarely seen, silver / black combination. As a late model Spider Veloce, the Alfa has the lovely beautiful interior with "suede" insets in the door panels / seats that is unique to the upgraded Spider version (vs. the more basic "Graduate") of the Alfa Spider. The interior has absolutely lovely black leather seats and black carpet, dash and door trim as accents. It is not only in amazing condition, it has the classic elegant Alfa sports car appearance. The paint is extremely high gloss with absolutely no peeling, fading, signs of damage or flaws. As the photographs indicate, this is an exceptional car, indeed. The car's exterior is in superb condition and, perhaps most importantly, is totally free from rust, pitting or damage. Even a very close, critical inspection reveals virtually no imperfections (side and front door/road chips, as an example) and none of the typical, extensive door dings, dents, scratches or damage typical on an Alfa of this vintage. The hood is free from the usual parking dent/damage on the front of the car and the bumpers do not show the "rash" so often seen on big city Alfa's. The information obtained directly from the previous owner (and supported by a thorough inspection of the vehicle), suggests that the Alfa has never been involved in an accident, or had any damage of any kind. There are, as one would expect, a few very small road chips on the front of the car that are unavoidable on a low sports car of this type. However, any minor imperfections do not in any way detracts from the overall appearance of the Alfa Spider. Any minor imperfections and require very close, critical inspection to be identified. The convertible top on the Alfa is in nice condition and free from rips or tears on the top itself. The beading on the edge of the top shows no wear at all. The top is manual (as was the case with all Alfa Spider's) and the framework works perfectly and seals well. The rear window is perfectly clear and has always been protected (when in the down position) with a towel. The car has been used largely as a weekend car and the top has been down more than up! The latches work well and even the small leather straps that hold the fasteners (typically missing, or ripped) are in place to prevent rattling of the top latches. As expected with an automobile of this quality that has been garaged, pampered by its owners, and rarely (if ever) exposed to the elements, the Alfa does not have the typical rust found on sports cars in most parts of the USA. Even the spare tire "well", and undercarriage reveals a dry, clean and rust free car (refer to photos). The doors, hood, and trunk line up well, with even gaps, and close easily and securely. The underside of the hood is clean for a vehicle of this age and free of significant dirt, oil and grease (see photos on the Website). The original factory stickers are in place on the underside of the hood, inner side door, trunk and all of the labels remain undamaged and legible. The trunk is finished in the original factory material and is 100% clean and dry. The Alfa logo is embedded on the most forward panel that, when lowered, exposes the tools and jack. The spare tire well is also clean and totally rust free and the spare is in very good condition with only minor marks from being stored. The door locks operate properly as does the lock on the glove box door. The trunk releases with the inside release, as per factory specifications, and has a working lock on the handle, located inside of the passenger compartment. There is also a gas cap release located inside the passenger compartment, which can be locked to secure the exterior gas cap. The exterior trim is also in very good condition. The bumpers are straight, free from accident damage, and do not have the appearance of have never been re-painted. The photos accurately reflect the beauty of the exterior of this Alfa. The exterior plastic trim and other exterior moldings have virtually no damage and are in excellent condition. The power side windows are functional and free from cracks and damage. It is in very good condition with no cracks, or noticeable stars/chips. The chrome surround strip around the windshield is in excellent condition. INTERIOR To say the interior on this Alfa is nice would be a dramatic understatement. Again, it is the nicest that we have seen on a "pre-owned" Alfa Romeo. The Alfa is completely stock with the leather / "suede" trim and is all black. Unlike many of the Alfa cars that we see (we have owned over 25) that show significant wear on the dash, carpet and many other areas of the interior, this car is in remarkably good condition. While almost every Alfa that we see has a dash crack, this car is totally free from any cracks / damage to the dash. As the photos reflect, the interior has no needs and rates extremely high in every respect. The driver's side seat does not show any rips, tear or signs of wear. It is totally solid and does not show the softness that we sometimes see in the side bolster or driver's side seat cushion. The passenger side seat is equally excellent. The Alfa's most recent "caregiver" has cherished this Spider, and it shows. The seats usually become very dirty and terribly worn, but this is not the case with this particular Alfa Spider. The interior is very clean including the rear storage area, carpeted front areas, and trunk. The dash is finished in black, and the door panels are tastefully finished in black and are also excellent. The center console is black, and in great condition, free from any cracks, damage or signs of wear. The trunk is finished in the original black carpet that is free from any rips, or damage of any kind. There are no stains on the carpet and the car has older, but good, carpet mats with the Alfa logo. The original spare is in place as are the original tools, jack and all of the instruction / owner's manuals. The door sills and door jambs are clean, and free from dirt and grease. The retracting seat belts are original and in good condition. All the gauges are functional and even the clock works, and keeps accurate time! The lenses are clean, and do not have any cracks or damage. The center console is also free from cracks and the shift boot is in excellent original condition. The shift knob is stock as is the steering wheel. The center horn button is also totally stock and has the Alfa insignia. Of course, the horn is fully functional. Unlike earlier Alfa's the car has a driver's side airbag for safety. The Spider has the stock radio and speaker system along with a rare upgrade. The car is fitted with an Alfa installed 12 CD player in the trunk. We have never seen this option (installed by the factory and shown on the window sticker). The system is functional and the sound quality is consistent with that of the era. In fact, the receipts document recent repairs to the sound system to ensure that it operates to factory specifications. The glove box contains the original manuals, and the manual for the stereo, along with the other factory documents. Also in the trunk is the factory convertible top "boot" for use when the top is in the down position to enhance the appearance of the Alfa. ENGINE & MECHANICAL COMPONENTS The Alfa Spider runs and drives beautifully. The car has recently passed smog and a safety inspection with NO findings. Of course, the Alfa carries a clear transferrable title that is free from liens or encumbrances. The car is now with its new owner in 20,380, MA and will be sold from that location. Local inspections and pre-purchase inspections are encouraged and can be arranged in advance by emailing though eBay. The Owner's Maintenance Booklet supports the cars original delivery in the Northwest alone with dealer servicing stamps. We ask that you keep in mind that this car has just 19,026 miles when we sold it and the car has accumulated fewer than 1,500 miles since. The owner believes this car to be one of the finest Spider's in the country and we can't argue with that logic! The car is free from the usual speedometer / odometer stories or questionable history and excuses. It is totally legitimate and the mileage is documented both by service and Car Fax reports. The 2nd owner who had the car for 15~ years was extremely cautious about accumulating miles on the Alfa and dreaded the day when the miles would exceed 20,000. The car never hit 20,000 miles under his ownership and just showed 19,025 miles on the odometer when it was sold by the 2nd owner to Classic Cars Ltd. He started and moved the car regularly to prevent tire "flat spotting" and to make sure the car was well exercised and running perfectly at all times. The car was returned to the dealer for scheduled servicing and the 10,000 service was completed at 9,841 miles and entered as having been completed by the Alfa Romeo dealership. The oil services were performed based on time not mileage due to the limited use of the Alfa. The Alfa reflects excellent care and runs and drives as an Alfa should. Specifically, the oil was changed every 1,000 miles and was last completed within approximately 300 miles. When we received the car, as part of its inspection we have had a complete oil service (oil, filter, fluid checks, etc.) performed. This service was completed within the previous 50 miles. So, the car will not require any service for some time. The car has had a recent smog safety inspection and other minor service that is documented in our file. When it comes to drivability, this particular Alfa is as good as it gets. If you wanted a new Alfa when the 1992' came out and missed the opportunity, this will be the closest chance that you will have to own a virtually new Alfa Spider Veloce convertible. The car drives like a new Alfa and is truly a time warp. It is incredibly fun to drive and does not exhibit any problems. The car starts immediately when cold and hot, and runs cool, even in warm California temperatures. The battery is excellent and, as a result of the fuel injection, starts the car on the first attempt. The Alfa is currently registered and carries clear, transferrable title. The engine is very strong and does not smoke, leak fluids, or exhibit any drivability problems what so ever. The Alfa idles smoothly at just below 1000 rpm, does not hesitate, and pulls strongly through the gears and, in typical Alfa fashion, has a wonderful exhaust note. As a result of the 5-speed transmission, the car can be driven easily at highway speeds with absolutely no problem. The characteristically weak 2nd gear syncromesh shows absolutely NO weakness in this Alfa. The Alfa can easily be down shifted from 3rd gear to 2nd gear at speed, unlike other Alfa Romeo cars that demonstrate weak 2nd gear syncros when this is attempted. Reverse gear engages smoothly, unlike many of the Alfa's that we have driven/owned. Of course, the car absolutely never pops out of reverse or forward gear, and does not have any transmission, rear end noise. We attribute the strength of the transmission to the car having been under the ownership of an enthusiast that did not abuse the car and knew how to drive it. There is no noise in the driveline and the clutch engages properly and without slippage, chattering or fuss. The car steers straight and sure, the brakes work well and stop the car without any pulling, squeaking or noise. The emergency brake is fully functional. The spare tire is the original and the spare tire well is 100% free from any signs of rust or moisture, only the normal accumulation of surface dirt. The trunk is extremely clean and the factory jack is in place. The spare wheel has the normal scuffs from being stored (the tire was replaced within a few hundred mile as part of the change of 5 tires). The wheels on the car ("Phone Dial') are generally very good with several being totally free from damage a few having the usual scuffs from normal use. Close up photos of each of the 4 wheels are shown on the listing. We have owned over 30+ Alfa's during the past 25 years and can say with confidence that is one of the best examples of a later mode Alfa Spider Veloce that we have had the pleasure of owning. Please keep in mind, Alfa is returning to the USA very soon so these cars are bound to increase in value. Thank You, Classic Cars Ltd. 925-846-1451 MISCELLANEOUS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) 1. Absolutely, we encourage inspections of this Alfa by serious, qualified individuals, or professional inspection companies. All we ask is that you call us at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time since we are in and out of our offices quite a bit. We are unable to allow inspections 24 hours prior to the end of the auction as we are closed on Sunday. 10. Can you provide some "ballpark" costs of shipping costs around the United States? Yes, on a fully insured, ENCLOSED carrier (we do not recommend the more common "open" transporters for a car of this caliber) and delivered to your door, about $1,750.00 from the East Coast to West coast, $1,350.00 to some of the Southern States, and around $1000 to points in the Midwest. PLEASE check with us as these are just estimates, NOT firm shipping costs, and rates are changing regularly due to fuel costs, exact locations, and other factors. PURCHASING A COLLECTOR VEHICLE - THINGS TO CONSIDER As always, we recommend that you carefully review the seller's background of any collector car being sold over the Internet. We believe that it is important to ask yourself a number of questions including, but not limited to: - How long have they been in business? - How much experience do they have with collector cars? - How many positive collector car vehicle sales have completed (positive EBay feedback)? - How detailed/complete is the description of the vehicle? - Do the photos show details of the interior, exterior, top, chrome, etc. or are they simply "Glamour Shots" taken from a distance? - Does the seller have a surety bond to protect the financial transaction? - What about insurance, licensing by the state, and a local business license? - Does the seller (if a business) have any DMV (Motor Vehicle) complaints and/or other history of legal action, grievances? - Do they enjoy a favorable local and national/international reputation? - Can the seller assist with funding sources, transport and out of state/country sales?
