Vehicle Detail

Up for bids is this rare Euro version of the venerable R107 Series.  When Mercedes transitioned from the W113 model to the new R107 they left US customers without the option of a manual gearbox.  This car has a factory installed Getrag 5spd that was not available in the US.  The European market cars also enjoyed livelier motors and more svelte bumpers, this car also features the addition of a AMG skirt kit.  The manual transmission adds a simplicity to this model that hearkens back to the W113 cars, yet the car offers the modern safety features that defined the R107 series - kind of the best of both worlds.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The car has been repainted in its original color of Signal Red, code 568.  The paint quality is just fair, it has a good shine but is not show quality.  Expect to find several chips and some light scrapes where the hardtop mounts at the rear.  On the bright side, this car has no rust issues anywhere top or bottom; no bubbling, no blistering, no problems.   Panel fit is good, doors close with a vault like feel.  The car rides on a set of quality Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires with good tread, wheels are BBS. The bumpers add a look to this car that is simply missing from the US market cars with their ungainly 5mph bumpers.  The body on this SL is very straight with no door dings. Good fitting soft-top with a clear back window and no rips.  Hardtop is in good shape as well. The leather seats are in great shape, the optional back seat is leather as well.  The door panels are in good conditon, the carpet is a bit faded but is not worn.  Both power windows work well.  All lights work as well as the signals, horn, wipers, etc. The car's odometer is in kilometers, its actual mileage of 118,800 KM equals approx. 74,000 miles.  All gauges work correctly and show good readings.  The clock keeps good time.  The dash has one small crack near the defrost vent (see photo), otherwise it's in very nice shape. The radio has been upgraded to a modern Becker with remote, it has very good sound.  The power antenna works as it should.  The climate control needs looking into, as it seems to only function in heat mode.  Fan and plenums operate correctly.  The AC compressor engages correctly when switched on.  3rd shot is of the hardtop's headliner.  Trunk is rust free and in good shape with the original Continental spare (unused) and jacking equipment.  You'll definitely like the way this car drives.  The car starts easily and runs strongly with no smoke, leaks, or issues.  The DOHC Six provides plenty of power, and delivers it in a more lithe and efficient manner than the big lumbering US market V8's.   The car tracks straight and brakes well, steering and suspension are tight with no slop, this car handles very well.  The car shifts flawlessly, with smooth and positive engagement.  I don't have service records on the car other than some recent receipts for brake, tune up and electrical work.  These will be included as well as the original owners manual.  The car has a new Mercedes brand battery and a new driveline flex disc. The undercarriage shows excellent floor pans and sills with no rust issues or signs of accident history. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
