Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 2001 Honda Insight 55+MPG! Runs and Drives Great Power Windows and Locks, Automatic Climate Control, CD Player, Security System with Remote, Super-Efficient 5-Speed Manual Transmission, & Honda's Legendary Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) Hybrid System. This Insight is an absolute pleasure to drive. It is smooth, quiet, and solid on the road. The hybrid system works perfectly. IMA battery pack keeps its charge and recharges quickly. The auto-stop feature (engine shuts off at idle to save gas) works great and is easy to start up & go when you put her in gear. The engine runs smooth with no leaks, the manual 5-speed transmission works just as it should with no noises, and the body is in good shape for a car of this age however, it could use a fresh paint job (the front is chipped from freeway miles, and the roof has lost some of the clear-coat). Both the seats are in good condition and come with sheepskin covers. The dash has no cracks or rattles. The AM/FM CD player works and sounds great; the sound system is all aftermarket, with robust speakers mounted in the front & rear. A/C with auto climate control blows cold. All of the power options work without a glitch. Aside from all the regular-interval maintenance work, this car has had all major repairs done as well. All these repairs are documented in receipts, and include the following: · Total Transmission rebuild, with new clutch & clutch master cylinder in 2007 · Replace the whole IMA battery module/pack in 2008 · Replace Battery Condition Monitor computer (BCM) in 2008 · Replace the Motor Control Module computer (MCM) in 2008 The brakes still have plenty of padding left on them, and the oil was changed with Amsoil Full-Synthetic & Amsoil’s best oil filter just 450 miles ago. The Goodyear tires are running low on tread, but don’t need to be replaced right away. I just installed a new battery on March 19, 2012. I (the current owner) am an enthusiast as well as an engineer, so I like to learn and tinker. As such, I’ve read a good amount about maintaining good health of NiMh hybrid battery packs through the InsightCentral forum by way of grid charging. I’ve built my own grid charger and simply hook it up to the battery pack (by way of a molex-connector) about once a month to maintain excellent battery health. Although this isn’t necessary, it’s always a good precautionary measure. I have logs/Excel-spreadsheets of both the major repairs, as well as the grid charging logs, graphs, etc… This was/is my baby. I wanted to go so far as to install a Manual Integrated Motor Assist (MIMA) system to see if I could get around 100mpg, but lost my job, so I don’t have the extra cash to make this happen. Check it out on 99mpg.com. In today’s economy, and with gas prices being predicted to sky-rocket up to $8/gallon THIS SUMMER, the question is: how can you not afford to have a hybrid? Feel free to write with any questions you may have; I’m usually quick to respond. I can also email the original hi-res photos for a better, more zoom-able look at the car; or better yet, arrange to come out, take a look and test drive this one-of-a-kind hybrid that STILL holds the legacy of THE BEST fuel economy hybrid on the American roads.
