Vehicle Detail

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE saloon Were you always looking for a “Barn Car” find? Here it is. This car has been in the family since new, when it was picked up in Germany and shipped home. We are the 2nd owner. It is entirely original, save for some paint, batteries, shocks and such, and serviced by Mercedes until it was parked. The owner’s information packets are still in the glove box along with the stamped steel owner ID tag, International Drivers Permit and Service policy booklet with stamped VIN number. A fantastic restoration project / power train donor for your SE or 280SL. This car has been garaged for the past 9 years, started once or twice a year for a run around the block. The engine was rebuilt by Mercedes once (1990’s-40K ago) at a cost around $9.000, and runs well. The transmission, brakes, and suspension are serviceable. With a good tune up and general servicing and you could drive it anywhere. The AC compressor was removed, but is included. The paint is poor, faded and checkered in some places. The passenger front fender has a dent; there is a dent in the rear fender well on the same side. There is some rust on the lower part of the rear drivers fender drip well. This was a California car for most of its life so the rust issues are not as bad as it sounds. A few Rocky Mountain winters just took the shine out of it. Chrome and bright work varies from good to OK. Some rust/pitting on part of the front bumper. Have you priced hubcaps lately? These are all in good shape. The interior is in very good shape. The driver’s seat has a small tear. Door panels are all very good. Carpet is almost perfect, the dash has one small crack, and the dome light is missing. Headliner is good as is the wood on the dash. Wood Veneer along the windshield/windows is checkered. Two of the plastic temperature control levers had broken at the thumb knob. Door sill plastic is poor. All common for the age of this vehicle and easily remedied with readily available parts. Title is clear. Registration is not current. Sold AS IS. No warranty implied. Payment expected within 3 days of close of auction with PayPal or cashier check to clear before I’ll release the car. Buyer must pay for and arrange for transport within 2 weeks. Car is listed elsewhere and I reserve the right to pull this offer at anytime. Located in Stevensville, Montana It has been my intent to service this car, refresh the paint and drive it. When we took ownership of it from my wife’s 92 year old grandmother, she took me on a ride, telling me about driving on the Autobahn. She said, “Notice that the speedometer goes to 160?” I asked her to slow down when we hit 140. It was truly a joy to drive, but health issues force the sale. Whatever your plans you will have good bones to work with.
