1994 Mercedes Benz S 350 Turbo Diesel NO RESERVE Starting price 99 cents, NO RESERVE!!! 1994 Mercedes Benz S350 Turbodiesel WDBGB34E7RA157787, 224k miles, good overall condition. GREAT fuel mileage for such a big, heavy car (24.6 and 25.1 mpg on my last two fill ups, mostly running around town), close to 30 mpg on long highway trips. It even has a fuel economy gauge to assist you with developing an economical driving style! This car is basically a bank vault on wheels, big, imposing, very quiet and luxurious on the inside. It’s the sixth older Mercedes diesel that I’ve had the pleasure of owning, I presently own two others so this one is surplus, even though I hate to see it go. From an economy of operation vs. luxury perspective, these cars are difficult to beat – any gasoline powered car this big and luxurious will be very lucky to get 15 mpg around town, probably closer to 10 mpg. BUT on the flip side, this great fuel economy comes with a BIG trade-off: you can’t be a very aggressive driver, the best word I can think of to describe the acceleration is “ponderous”. Known history: I purchased this car on eBay from a dealer in Dallas in 2005, with about 170k miles on it. It’s been my wife’s daily driver for most of the time since then -- I’ve religiously done oil/filter changes w/ 15W40 Shell Rotella every 7500 +/- miles (300 miles on a fresh oil change/filter) and had the factory scheduled routine maintenance specified by Mercedes done at a local independent Mercedes specialist. Fuel injectors replaced and radiator back flushed last summer. Matching set of Michelin tires w/good remaining tread, four wheel alignment last summer. Also please note that it has driver and passenger front power seats have memory, and all the mirrors (including the rearview mirror!) are power operated and fully functional. Interior in very nice condition overall, wood trim looks real nice and only has a few small cracks (noticeable only if you look closely), door windows apparently have some extra tinting. Known issues: 1. Driver’s seat bottom cushion torn up (see pic). If the selling price exceeds $5,000, I will include a couple of factory black leather replacement seats (nice condition, with no tears) at no additional cost. 2. Front passenger seat is torn up at bottom of seatback cushion (no pic). 3. Driver’s side rear seat roof vanity mirror latch broken, I’ve taped it closed since I've never used it. 4. Stereo volume knob functions inconsistently. 5. Clearcoat on trunk lid is peeling (see pic). 6. Passenger side front turn signal lens broken, minor associated scrape marks on bumper edge @ front corner (see pic). I have ordered a replacement lens and will include it with the car when sold. 7. Fuel gauge erratic once it gets below 1/2 full, I just reset the trip odometer to zero every fill up and wait until it’s around 500 miles before filing back up again. Fuel tank is 26 gallons. I also add an ounce or two of diesel fuel supplement every fill up. 8. Battery light usually comes on and stays on for a few minutes, but goes off shortly thereafter. My mechanic attributes this to a minor electrical issue that’s not worth pursuing. 9. Batteries dead on remote locking key fobs. I will try to get this taken care of, but might not have the time to do so before the auction ends – I’ll presently traveling out of town on business and may not have the opportunity to do so. 10. Sometimes, but not always, smokes under heavy acceleration, but not consistently. I usually drive it with a “light foot” so it’s not an issue for me most of the time, but it does occasionally smoke when merging on to the interstate or other heavy throttle situations. My mechanic thinks it might be a “sticky” EGR valve, but has been unable to diagnose it as it doesn’t always occur. BTW, it runs like a watch at a steady 75 mph… 11. Uses a quart of oil every 3rd tank of fuel or so. 12. Clear coat has faded on the driver side “C” pillar (behind the passenger door). I tried to take a picture but the pic doesn’t show the issue very well. (see pic) 13. Miscellaneous “dents and dings”, nothing very noticeable or significant. I have thoroughly described the car to the best of my abilities above, the car is sold “as is”. Clear Georgia title in my name in my possession. Pre-purchase inspections are 100% the responsibility of the buyer. Car will be available for test drives the two weekends the auction is running (Saturday 3/10, Sunday 3/11, Saturday 3/17, and Sunday 3/18), POSSIBLY Friday 3/9 and Friday 3/16 as well, but I’m not sure of my schedule yet – I will be out of town on business during the week, may or may not be available on those two Fridays.
