Up for auction is a 1990 Mercedes Benz 300SE: White on Grey leather interior, these cars are known as the W126 chassis and have been produced in many variants – 420sel, 560sel, 380sel, 380se, 300sd, etc etc.  This particular one is the short wheelbase W126 with the straight six motor – very reliable and arguably better than the V8s.  My 300SE has 141k miles and was driven sparingly throughout it’s life.  It is in pretty good mechanical shape, runs and drives well, the engine feels very healthy – starts up right away, and revs freely.  The transmission shifts smoothly and operates as it should.  The blower works, heat works, all the lights work correctly – power seats work, windshield wipers work too.  The car also has a new battery as the old one went flat after the car sat without being driven for a while.  All the gauges seem to work normally as well.  Car also comes with both OEM Mercedes keys, a few service records – and the original window sticker when the car was purchased new in 1990. The car runs and drives well, but for reality’s sake – it needs some TLC to be a really solid daily driver.  First and foremost, it needs front rotors and pads: the car can be, and is driven as it is - but new front rotors and pads should be done ASAP.  Only two of the four windows go down – it probably needs window regulators on the non-functional windows.  The body is in fair to satisfactory shape, paint is fair but there are some small isolated surface rust spots.  The car has an aftermarket head unit, and I can not turn it on.  Unfortunately, the previous owner was a smoker and the interior reflects that.  The car could be seen in two ways, a good “driver” that needs front brakes and some odds and ends.  Or a spectacular parts-car that has a great drive-train and many very good parts.  It would really be a shame to part this W126 out as it only needs a couple hundred dollars worth of effort to make it a solid driver, but fact is: the car is worth more in parts than it is as a whole.
