Vehicle Detail
The car for auction is a 1948 Ford Super Deluxe 2 door Coupe. This is an orginal car with the Flathead V-8, 6 volt positive ground system, 3 on the tree transmission. What parts that have been replaced (distrubutor, wiring, generator) that go out with time have been replaced with NOS. I have just about every receipt to go with it. This car was owned by Willie Nelson and was part of multiple car museums in Nashville including the Cars of the Stars and the Music Valley Car Museum. It was part of the Willie Nelson & Friends Museum collection run by a man named Frank Oakley. Here is a snippit about Frank: Frank Oakley, a well-liked music executive who worked with country artists including Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves, Faron Young and Willie Nelson, died on April 2, 2009. He was 83. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Oakley was a veteran of WWII and a former police officer. His country music career began in 1961, when he was hired by the Mary Carter Paint Company, charged with attracting country stars for the company’s advertising. In 1979, Oakley and his wife Jeanie went to work for Nelson, opening the Willie Nelson and Family General Store, which they ran for the next 30 years. He chronicled his life in country music in a recent book, The Nashville Sidekick. Oakley was was a member of AFTRA and R.O.P.E. The car was sold from Frank Oakley to a gentleman named Bob Larson in May of 1994 from the museum. In 2004 Bob Larson sold the car to my father, who was told the car had been in the museum for over 25 years and had not been cranked. My father brought the car home to Atlanta and after trial and error and learning about these old Fords from Fordbarn ( a great antique Ford website) as well as old books, we got her cranked and running within the month. We flushed out the motor, radiator, got the carb rebuilt, installed a new gas tank, ran new fuel lines, rebuilt the generator, distrubutor, coil, and pretty much everything else that needed some tlc. We used as much of the original parts and what we needed we bought from Macs, Bob Drake, or Joe Smith Automotive. The interior was in excellent condition except for the wiring that was dry rotted from all those years of sitting so we ordered a replica wiring harness complete set and installed it. This is the old style wiring that has the cloth woven around it like the original. Of course we put new Coker whitewalls on it as well. The clock works and all is there for the radio but I believe it needs new tubes in it, not too sure because I don't know much about those old radios. The car has been garage kept and has absolutely not seen any rain. I washed it once and from then on just used detailer mist to keep her clean. We probably have only driven her mabye 100 miles since 2004. We used it as a grocery getter every now and then but just enjoyed it in our garage. I did attach a 6 volt push/pull fan onto the radiator to help with cooling with these hot Georgia summer drives but only turned it on if I was sitting somewhere for a couple of minutes when people asked to take a look at it. The car has run great for us, doesnt smoke at all, and is a blast to drive. The paint is not the best with multiple flaws in it but we didnt want to touch it because it is the original paint job and we like it that way. We just have decided to sell it because we don't get the time to enjoy it as we once did. With the historical value of this car we just hope it goes to a great new home where it will continue to bring a smile to peoples faces. $500 deposit due by 48 hours after auctions ends through paypal and full payment due within 10 days or item will be relisted.
