Vehicle Detail
For Sale; 1953 Volvo PV444. Pampered original condition. Imported from Sweden (Volvo didn’t have American distribution until 1958). When it was in Sweden, it was in the membership ranks of the PV Klubben the club devoted to this type. I have a lot of literature with this car including Swedish club handouts and the original Service manual. I bought the car from the premier independent Volvo Shop in Edmond, Oklahoma owned and operated by Jim Hackler who imported it. In the past ten years it has been driven on rare occasions. Since buying the car I have renewed the engine bearings, piston rings, and valve components. I also substituted an M 40 transmission for the original three speed unit (made a world of difference in drive-ability) The car’s greatest virtue is that at no time in its life was it altered in any way apart from the above…absolutely original, complete, rust free and, save for the driver seat which is worn and the door cards which show some discoloration, in very good condition. I’ve considered getting the whole interior re-upholstered but that might offend some potential buyer’s sense of originality. The only things which I know to be faulty are the brake drums which are scored to the point of requiring new ones (These are available online). To a prospective buyer who doesn’t know the PV 444 collecting hobby, parts are quite easily available (there is a supplier from Sweden in Charleston, South Carolina who has almost everything at reasonable prices.) If you would like to speak to me about this Volvo, send me your email address and I will email you my phone number. Collection of the Volvo is the responsibility of the winning bidder. I live in Southern Kentucky, close to Bowling Green, KY and about 60 miles north of Nashville, TN. This Volvo is to be sold with no reserve. Payment is due by cashier’s check within five business days of the winning bid On Mar-23-12 at 10:30:23 PDT, seller added the following information: One person called me asking about any "rust issues" and another wanted additional pics of the underside of the car. I have uploaded pics which should satisfy these questions. The only thing which might concern anyone is an area about the size of a thumbnail near the gas cap. Since it has been there without changing through the ten years of my ownership, I don't know whether to describe it as proto-rust or a paint blemish. I have included a picture of this area. I also should have noted that the driver's side of the floor mat is torn but, since most of these original floormats perished thirty years ago, this should not be a sticking point.
