Vehicle Detail
Please Read Carefully: 1971 Pontiac GTO. Last of the true 242 GTO's. This car was assembled in Pontiac, Michigan at the PMD world headquarters. My Dad worked at PMD engineering from the late 50's to mid 80's, at one point under John Z Delorean. Anyhow, Pontiacs are very special to me and I really hate to sell this true Goat. Due to financial / family matters, I have decided to concentrate on my '69 GTO . This GTO was shipped from the factory to Doug Willey Pontiac of Birmingham, AL where it spent most of it's life. Probably the reason why it is very solid. In the 1990's it was brought back to Michigan and used as a driver. Then the car was sold to someone that wanted to restore it but he died before the restoration was completed. The engine was rebuilt at this point though, I was told. The factory color is the pretty rare code 53 which is Quetzal gold. Came from the factory with black vinyl top and factory vinyl side body moldings(rare for GTO's). I have obtained moldings for both the top and sides. I do have almost all chrome moldings for the car. Most in great driver condition. All other options can be seen on the picture of the window sticker. The numbers matching YS 400 runs sound and was rebuilt at some point in the late 90's to early 00's and was almost never driven. No knocks or smoke. Original factory issue #96 heads and factory cast iron intake still remain. I have replaced the side expansion plugs but the rear ones behind the bell housing will have to be replaced. Car sat for sometime before I found it. At last startup I observed some leaking. Factory THM 400 transmission looks to have been rebuilt at one time. 46,395 miles on title and odometer. I have spent much time and money trying to restore to factory conditions. This includes finding many OEM and some NOS parts. These include '71 rebuilt Q-Jet, factory date coded air cleaner assembly. I Also have the black lid which is included. Factory exhaust manifolds. The four core radiator has been re-cored and pressure checked. Everything down to NOS choke thermostat and rod. All pullies have been replaced with OEM products. Much time and money has been spent replacing the factory A/C brackets and compressor unit. Found an OEM condenser and other A/C parts. Obtained OEM lower dash vent assembly as well as various ducts. The interior is out of the car but it is in excellent conditon. Door panels are excellent as well as the seats. Great driver condition and with some help show condition. The driver seat has a seam rip that I have currently taped. Have new package tray. Also have a reconditioned OEM steering wheel. Will need new dash pad and headliner. Both front wiring harnesses have been replaced with the best available at a very high cost. New brake components. Lines are good. New alternator...I have receipts for everything. Most products are form AMES Factory gauge clusters that I fixed to work properly with correct sending units and wiring harnesses. Also has factory in dash tachometer in place that functions correctly as well. Rear window defogger unit is also included. High torque starter. Boxed rear control arms with sway bar (factory) Factory rear end. All hardware for the car is labeled. Small parts are in a tackle box and that is included. The entire font clip of the car (fenders, inner wells, core support, bumper, front valence) has been removed and professionally sand blasted and is currently off the car and are bare metal and ready for fresh work. Front fenders will need some work on the bottoms but they are really in good condition. Inner wheel wells are in great stripped condition as well as the front and rear valence panels and front endura bumper. Both headlight buckets are in excellent condition. One had to be replaced with an OEM unit. Core support was sand blasted and metal was welded in below the battery tray. It was sealed with epoxy primer and painted professionally. The car is very solid as you can see from the pictures. There is one small spot on the passenger side of the floor that needs to be patched. Only from water sitting from the inside out. I have a patch panel for this. Only a part of it really will be needed. Drivers side is good but the seam along rocker will need some work. The rest of the floorboards are in excellent condition. Including the trunk. Rear drivers side inner wheel well needs a small patch. Rocker moldings are extremely solid and are in excellent original condition. The frame and underbody is in excellent condition. Most of the factory undercoating can still be seen. Doors are solid but will need some work on the bottoms. Skins can be repaired. The parts that really need some work: Right rear quarter panel will need at least a lower skin patch and some inner well work. A full quarter would not be necessary but might be the best. Outer wheel well needs work or replacement on that side. The hood is solid but does have a kink. A professional body man said it can be fixed and is not too bad but it is still a kink. Roof has a fist sized shallow dent. Needs front glass. All other glass is in excellent condition. I have many new pieces to go with it including sets of specialized bolts and fasteners for the front fenders and wheel wells. Have new weather strip sets for the doors and windows. Comes with original factory 14" Rally II wheels with a good set of trim rings and OEM center caps. Two rear bumpers come with the car. Solid but should be re-plated for show condition. This car is a great candidate for a finished restoration. At a good stage of restoration to do whatever you want. With body work, paint and some finish work, this will be an expensive car. Here is your chance to get a numbers matching rare piece of Pontiac history. Car will need to be picked up (trailered or towed) by buyer. Can not deliver but will help with pickup. Will need room for parts too. Sorry but no international buyers. A deposit of $550 is due at time of sale. Cash or certified check of balance is due at pickup. Title will be transferred at that time. Please ask any questions. I will be more than happy to give my personal number to talk. Thank you for looking.
