Vehicle Detail

1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II Coming out of the barn and ready for a rebirth is an incredible, rare, prestige vehicle that is an excellent collector value. This beautiful Continental Mark II puts an elegant exclamation point on an era of American luxury automobiles that has never since been attained. Created to capture the high end market in luxury cars, this fabulous example of motorcraft is the hallmark of Lincoln tradition, workmanship, style, and performance. The rich leather finish of this automobile, like a fine vintage wine, is still soft and supple and exudes the lasting quality of this car. The creamy white exterior is free of any rust, corrosion, dings, dents or scratches, and the car was operable when it went into storage over a decade ago. to produce a kind of durable leather opulence unmatched in any luxury vehicle of the era. Driving a Mark II is a special kind of experience only a few will ever know. Craftsmanship of the quality reserved for handmade luxury motorcars can be seen in this car. Each specially produced Continental Mark II demanded more than 60 hours of metal finishing, and each 368 CID Y Block V8 power plant was meticulously built and tested, producing 300 horsepower as it left the factory. Lincoln automotive engineers road tested each newly assembled unit for 12 miles, then fine-tuned it before pronouncing the unit ready for delivery. It is said that Ford’s Continental Division lost more than $1000 on the sale of each of these specialty cars that sold at a then astronomical price of $10,000. Called by some a Thunderbird in a mink coat, the car was calculated by Ford to be an “image” vehicle that would promote a broad offering of Continentals to follow. Under the hood, cast aluminum valve covers highlight the engine room. Rising exhaust manifolds can be seen swooping outward to connect with exhaust piping that travels the length of the body along the outside of the frame, allowing a stepdown flat flooring area for more comfortable foot room. Detail in every facet of construction, from the swing out taillights concealing the fuel filler cap to the carefully designed instruments surrounded by deep leather padding make these Lincoln models extremely desirable to auto connoisseurs around the world. This particular car was purchased by a collector in Las Vegas who drove the car to a garage where it has been since. The engine was running rough when it went into storage, but it is not known if it needs a complete overhaul, or simply some TLC and tuning. It has only 59,000 miles on the odometer and is all original throughout. The air conditioning system will need to be charged or perhaps refurbished. The chrome gleams like it did the day the car came off the production floor, but it has a slight dent in one of the vertical grille pieces. The interior is in extremely good condition, and the paint is very presentable when buffed to a show shine. With minimal restoration costs, this Mark II would be suitable for any museum collection, or it could be enjoyed on the road once again. You have a unique opportunity to own this motorcar for a very reasonable price. The owner is ready to part with it at a fraction of his invested cost. There are only a handful of these magnificent Marks for sale in the world today. The 1957 model, at only a sixth the production of its 1956 predecessor, is the rare and coveted choice of those who know vintage collectible cars. Many of them in restored condition command prices in excess of $60,000.
