This is a 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit Convertible with a 1.8L gasoline engine with 5 speed manual transmission. I purchase this with the intention of restoring her, and using her as a dailey driver. I drove her back and forth to work for several months and ended up purchasing a new VW so I cant afford to restore her and I quit driving her and put her in the front yard for sale. I would go on little test drives for potention buyers and because of the shifting problem she was not selling. I pulled her in the garage and she has sat there for several months getting started once or twice a month running for about 15 minutes. Last month I decided to pull her out fix the shifter issue(see below*) and she wouldn't start. I thought it was a fuel pump so it was replaced, then it was the fuel sender inside the tank, then the fuel filter. Ended up draining the gas and she started but when I tried to accellerate she would dies. I can't seem to find the reason so instead of ignoring her I have decided to see if I can find her a new home and let someone take care of her. *The shifter bushings needed to be replaced because it was hard getting into 1st and reverse gear. I replace the bushing and now when you put into reverse you really have to work on it to get it out of reverse. I think I may have done something wrong or just needs adjusted. Here are her other minor issues: There are 3 little surface rust spots on passenger fender and a small rust hole in the divers side floor board .The paint is faded may brighten up if polished or buffed.The convertible top has 2-3 small punctures(thanks to tree limb that fell) they have been covered with outdoor type tape to keep water out. The top padding and liner have been removed due to poor shape.. The convertible top mechanism does need a little work, the passenger side struts is missing the bolts that attach it to the frame and get hung up with closing. Small chip/crack in the windshield just above the drivers side wiper.Th seams in the driver seat have separated in several places. The cable that allow the seat to fold forward will not stay in the mechanism so the lever on the seat side does not work, you have to manually lift the lever.The radio has been removed.The air condition does not blow cold air.Exaust hangers are missing so the exhaust have been temporally support to the bottom of the car Here is the good:Overall interior is good, dash no damage or cracks, door panels no damage or cracks.6 tires and rims- 4 good tires with matcing rims (gray) and 2 that could be used for spares and 2 white rims, plus donut spare in the trunkThe alternator and battery were replaced yarly last year, along with new plugs, wire, oil change and valve adjustment.New fuel sender, electric fuel pump, fuel filterRan great until I forgot about her. On Mar-14-12 at 18:02:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I was told yesterday that the fuel system may have air in the lines due to removal of filter, and pump. If the fuel pressure is not 100% it will not run properly. Based on it will idle and when you give it gas (mixed with air) it will shut off.
