1934 Ford Five Window Sedan If you are planning to buy a new steel body for your early Ford project, why not consider saving money and having the genuine article at the same time? Most people start with reproduction steel bodies because of the excessive repair work required with an original body. Well, here is an original that will require very little work to get it into the paint booth! This car has been stored in pieces in my father's barn out here in California since 1973. He has now passed and I have put it back together to sell. As you can see from the pictures, it is not a complete car, but it is a roller and perhaps the best unrestored early Ford frame and body you will find. It comes with everything you see in the pictures and I will try to summarize the condition of each of the major components here: Overview: The car is assembled only to show here on eBay and to make shipping easy. I expect you will want to take it apart for restoration as soon as you get it, so it is held together with a minimum of fasteners. I have posted two walkaround videos on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg3TWUY3SGohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hhb6zK9Z4KE Frame: The frame is basically in perfect stock condition. All original cross members and bracing are in tact. It shows no sign of ever being hit or tweaked in any way. There is no rust that could not be removed with a simple wire brush session. The only non-original things on the frame are the two brackets for split wishbones that my dad tacked in place. These are properly located and could be finished and used if you are rodding it, but as of now they are only tacked in place and could be removed in about 10 seconds with a grinder. They would leave very little evidence that they had ever been there. Of course, the mount for the stock front suspension is still there, the original wishbone is mounted to it. Body: The body is in excellent unrestored condition. It is on its second paint job. You can see in the pictures the original tan color still on the firewall and on the inside. There are no signs that it has ever been smashed, all of the factory seams are straight. The floor is really solid. It seems like early on, someone coated it both top and bottom with undercoating. Add to that the fact that the rear window drain tube has remained in tact and you get a project that will not require a bunch of floor fabrication. The wood reinforcements inside are all in excellent condition. Seriously, there is no rot and you can reuse them in their current condition. Even the roof bows are fine and strong, although they do show signs of weathering on top. The roll-down rear window is in place and seems to be complete, but I have not tried to roll it up or down. There were some repairs done when it was painted blue: the cowl vent was filled (with bondo that is now chipping away) and medium size dent in the roof was welded up. The weld is about 3 inches There is a picture of it. The cowl vent seems to still be in place under the bondo. There are several dings and dents in the body, the worst is a round, half-dollar size dent in the roof. You can see it in the pictures, but honestly it is a little bigger than it looks. The only non-cosmetic rust on the body (or the whole car for that matter) is in the rocker panels below each of the doors. There is a line of little rust holes along each one. I have endeavored to capture all of this in pictures so you can judge the extent of this damage for yourself. I say it will require a small patch panel for a perfect repair. Doors: Both doors have been hyper-extended meaning there is a bulge behind the hinge that will need to be repaired. Other than that, they are in excellent condition. They are both complete including door panels. I have not ventured underneath the door panels but all of the hardware is there and the doors open and close nicely. On a good day you can even roll the door windows up and down. There is a cool feature where after you roll the window all the way up, you can crank it a little more and the window slides back and opens at the front as a vent. The door glass and rear window glass are in tact and serviceable except for the cracked Drivers side window. They are all somewhat yellowed. There is no windshield or left rear side window. Fenders: Rear fenders are in great condition with just a few dings. Front fenders are also in pretty good shape. There is a little damage to the passengers side front fender (see pics). The fender well pieces that attach the front fenders to the frame are not original to the car. I just picked them up at a swap meet so I could mount the fenders and they are not really in useable condition. Front Suspension: The '34 is sitting on its stock front axle connected to the stock wishbone and front spring. I could not find the u-bolts, so I clamped the spring to the frame bracket with hose clamps. Of course you could not drive this way, but it holds everything together fine for rolling it around. The drag link is a little too long, definitely not the right one, but it keeps the wheels pointed in the same direction. Connecting the wheels are the correct 34 spindles and later (juice) brake drums. All of the components are in good condition and could be used for a stock restoration. Rear Suspension: Holding up the back is the stock banjo rear axle, rear spring, and radius rods. I do not have the torque tube. As with the front, I could not find the spring perch hardware, so it is held together with hardware store u-bolts. Also like the front, the rear wheels are bolted up to juice drums. There are no backing plates installed front or rear. Firewall: The firewall has been removed from the body. In the pictures it looks like it is still welded in, but it is just being held in place with two screws. It does fit snugly though. The center has been cut, presumably to clearance it for a bigger engine. The cut-out part is included though, and could be welded back in place if you are doing a stock restoration. There is also a long line where it was previously cut and re-welded. The repair is not great but not bad. Hood and rear Apron: The hood and rear apron are in poor condition. They were stored in a different barn that at one time caught on fire. All the paint is burned off and they both got warped from the heat. The hood is not as bad as the rear apron and can probably be straightened out and used. Fuel Tank: Seems to be in good condition. It can be cleaned out, sealed and used. Wheels/Tires: I have it rolling around on some artillery style wheels which are worth a good bit of cash themselves. Tires are junk rollers. They only hold air for a couple hours (I think) because the wheels are supposed to have inner tubes in them. Still, you can fill them up and roll it around when you need to. Radiator: It is there, that's about all I can say about it. Actually, the top and bottom tanks look OK and it can probably be re-cored and used but no guarantees there. Seat(s): For some reason I have two seats for it. Neither are in very good shape. They are unbelievably heavy. The metal bottom frames and springs could be used for a stock restoration. ****This really is one of the last original bodies that will be pulled out of storage and sold on eBay. While I can't claim that it is completely rust and defect free, I can confidently say that it you will not find a better starting point for an early Ford project. ****We are located in the Corona/Riverside area and we are happy to have you come check it out in person. ****PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL SHIPPING ARRANGEMENTS AND COSTS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER ALONE.
