Vehicle Detail
Acquired at auction. Unknown history except for the fact that it appears to be an Arizona car and the title substantiates this. List price in 1963 was $4,445 so this was somewhat exotic in those days. It has a fiberglass body and only about 4,500 were made in 1963 & 1964. The original color was white and the paint is cracking and peeling on the car so it would need to be stripped and repainted if it were going to be restored correctly. The glass is all good as is most of the trim and bumpers. The interior is passable but would require replacement for a proper restoration. The car starts and runs easily and it moves when put in gear and stops when you step on the brake. I have not had the car on the highway so I don't know whether the running gear has issues or not. The gas is old so draining the tank and putting in new gas and checking the fluids, etc. would be a good starting point. It may be able to be driven as it is however I cannot guarantee that. I have no idea how long it may have been sitting but it appears to have been a driver not too awfully long ago. Again, I just don't know... Having said all that, the frame and body, glass and trim all look to be in pretty decent shape. It also appears to be fairly complete. Please forgive my ignorance about Studebaker Avanti. Please ask any questions you may have and feel free to make an appointment to come look at the car in person. It needs to be sold so if you are interested please don't hesitate to bid. For questions call Bill @ 928 380-3108 PS; The car has a new battery, power steering, automatic transmission, front disc brakes, factory air conditioning and a Studebaker 289 V8 (R1) motor. It also has a cool factor practically off the chart... Thanks for looking! On Feb-23-12 at 15:11:55 PST, seller added the following information: PPS; Vehicle is sold as-is, where-is - no warranty, yada, yada.... Thanks! On Feb-25-12 at 14:23:20 PST, seller added the following information: I jacked this car up today (Saturday) and took some pictures of the frame rails. These are just a sample taken at random. Even I was surprised at how rust free the frame is, but I guess I shouldn't be since this is an Arizona car. As a matter of fact I'm even toying with the idea of keeping the car now. SO, if you think this might be the car for you please don't wait until the last minute to bid on it because if it doesn't get the bidding action I think it deserves I will end the auction early and just keep it. Thanks for understanding... By the way, the over spray from the paint work to the body is peeling off the frame in a few places and it is shiny black frame paint underneath. If you've never owned an Arizona car you might be inclined to not believe me... Also, I looked at the front bumper and it is very solid like the rest of the car. Why somebody painted it black I have no idea... I also drove it around the block and it seems to shift and run and stop just fine. It should still be gone over carefully before putting it on the road. On Feb-25-12 at 14:25:06 PST, seller added the following information: PS; It also has power windows...
