Vehicle Detail

Ok folks, up for auction is an unusual car! It’s a 1962 Siebert “Aristocrat 1045” Ambulance decked out like the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 based on a Ford Country Sedan, which is the wagon version of the Galaxie. This car started out as kind of an unusual one, there were not many car based ambulances or funeral cars built on a Ford Chassis except those built by Seibert. Siebert stretched the car and filled the gap with an addition rear door skin and added their own fiberglass roof and rear door. Keep is set up as is and drive it, advertise with it, etc… Or put it back stock. The Ecto parts were put on with just a few holes and the holes are through fiberglass so they’ll be easy to fix. Heres a link to a short video that you can watch…http://youtu.be/LzlorNYek0Y I have been collecting funeral cars and ambulances for almost 15 years and this is only one of these I have ever seen in person and I have only seen a small handful in literature. So in a world of unusual vehicles, this one is still pretty rare. This unusual car found its way into the hands of a Denver sailboat racing team in the late 80’s and at about 40,000 miles on the clock they made a few changes to the car by adding the Jaguar fuel filler door, the Recaro Seats up front and moving the original bench to the rear, while still retaining a bulk of the rear floor and painted it’s exterior white. The also replaced the motor with a 64 390 and replaced the old “Green Dot” Ford Cruise-o-matic Tranny with the heavier duty C6. In 96 it was bought by a local here in Texas and in November of 2010 it was sold to me. At this time it has 75,000 miles on it. I decided to make an Ecto-1 replica (not exact obviously, the original is a 59 M+M Futurua Duplex Combo, very rare nowadays). I repainted the body red and white, added the decals and roof rack to it. It has some LED’s in the grill and on the roof rack tubes that can be left on when parked if you wish. The original bubble gum beacon, corner lights and siren all still work but it has a Ghostbusters siren as well that you can trigger from the dash. It uses clips from the movie and when armed, winds up, repeats and then when shut off “winds down” and goes back to idle. It has a working spot light on the roof, Code-3 XL7000 light bar and strobes behind the grill. It has brand new tires, the brakes have been rebuilt from pedal to wheels including the Master Cylinder and Brake Booster, all 4 wheels cylinders, new wheel bearings and seals, and brake hoses. The two rear brakes drums I replaced with two NOS ones and the two fronts I had were OK to be turned. I had the drive shaft checked out by Drive Shaft King in Dallas who said it was just fine, the C6 tranny has been serviced and new rear seal, new fuel filter (it has an electric pump), new rubber fuel lines, new timing chain and gear, carb professionally rebuilt by Mister Carburetor in Cedar Hill, all news hoses, belts, plugs, thermostat, coil, cap, rotor, air filter, new Gel Cell Optima battery, battery cables, both motor mounts, and I installed a brand new (not rebuilt) power steering pump. On most of theses, I have the old parts for cores as well, still in boxes. I don’t like giving up my cores to the parts houses. I also pulled the 4 core radiator out of it as well as the surge tank and had it pressure checked and cleaned. The radiator shop said it was clean as a whistle but hot tanked it anyway since I had paid for it. I ran a compression check on it when I got it and it was at the very top end of spec and consistent on all 8 cylinders. I added two 12’ Hayden electric cooling fans for parade use. Probably not necessary but I didn’t want to take any chances and I had them already. The tires are brand new and I bought a good used spare for it. It has a 40 gallon fuel cell in it. It’s a clean, fun car. It doesn’t have any rot, the floorpans are solid, the doors open and close nicely and overall, its really a pretty nice car. The paint isn’t perfect but it looks great for what I wanted it for. The ghost decals (as well as the rest of the decals) are vinyl stick ons and they look great but could be removed by the buyer if they desire. The motor is a 64 ford 390 FE motor and it really moves this car. It’s also backed by a Ford C6 automatic tranny. Even on a freezing cold day it fires right up and runs every time and I trust it to go anyplace. The interior is pretty clean but it has a few little tears here and there since it was installed in the late 80’s. Not a deal breaker and the Recaro seats are COMFY! The door panels were kinda nasty so I made some new, simple ones for it custom, for all five doors. I used a water proof backer board and upholstered them in black vinyl. I can include the originals as well. The alignment is good, the front end is tight and its drives nice and straight on the freeway. As far as passenger car based ambulances go, this one is relatively short, but overall its still a couple inches over 20 feet. The bad…The door jambs didn’t get painted so they’re a little ugly but they are white so the color matches. They have some staining and discoloration in a few spots were the doors stayed closed for quite a some time. The window felts need to be replaced and the windows shake a little over bumps. I don’t drive it real often so it wasn’t a huge deal for me. The passenger side front door needs a new power window motor. The exhaust pipes are good but the mufflers are bad. When I first got it I was running it to see what it needed and it loaded them up with gas and the mufflers popped after I had shut the motor off. Scared me to death! So just keep in mind you’ll need a pair of mufflers. All of this work done is recent, within the last year and I think I may have driven it 500 miles total. I put it together with the intention to keep it, but a rare funeral car I’ve been searching for many years turned up so I need some funds and I lost my indoor parking for this one. I’ll be sad to see it go, it’s been a great “turn the key and go” car for me. One thing is for certain it’s a head turner! This car NEVER leaves the house without being photographed If you don’t want the light bar, roof rack, tubes, strobes and Ecto siren (which is housed in the center console, and in no way connected to the one on the roof) and want to make it a stock ambulance again, let me know, Id be interested in adjusting the price by $300 to keep them for another Ecto project I'm starting soon. I have a clear Texas title in hand. Email me for picture requests and please ask all questions before you bid and try to not wait too close to the end so I’ll have time to respond. Or let me know if you want to see it in person, test drive it, look underneath, etc… See it in person if you can. No warranty expressed or implied. No rentals or refunds, Do not pass “GO”. All that jazz. I can email more photos as well. I must receive payment within 7 days of close of auction. New or 0-rated or users with more than 2% NEGATIVE feedback MUST email me before bidding or I will block you from bidding. All I ask for is a simple email with information about your intention to pay!! Nothing personal but I don’t have time for deadbeats outbidding legitimate buyers. Remember, your bid is a legally binding contract! Please do not bid unless you plan to complete your purchase!! My preference is Paypal or you can pay cash in person on pickup. If your far away and need the car shipped I know a good shipper I have used recently on a car I just purchased, his rates where very reasonable and he’s used to hauling cars of this length.
