Vehicle Detail
For sale. A 1950 Cadillac, near top of the line in it's time, model 60 special with a body by Fleetwood. The color is robin's egg blue. Automatic, power windows and seat. We are the second owner of the car. It has been in my family since 1970 ( I took it to my high school prom in 1971). The Cadillac was repainted in 1979 and the interior was reupholstered in 1992. It is inspected through next June and runs great. The reason we are getting rid of it is that I am nearing retirement and we are downsizing. The vehicle is collecting more dust and taking up precious space these days. Recently the car was driven into the Guinness book of world records as part of the 'longest Cadillac parade' held last summer in Barton, Vt. The car even had a background part in the Vermont made movie 'Stranger in the Kingdom' back in the 90s. The car has never been driven in the winter and is rust free. It has resided in Vermont for all of it's history. It was originally purchased from a dealer in White River Jct, Vt.. It spent the first twenty years in Barre, Vermont before we purchased it. A friend of my dad's sold it to us because his mom, the owner, was quite elderly and could no longer drive. We were told that she only used the car to take her 'little old lady' friends out to lunch on weekends in the summertime. Mostly original, the transmission was refurbished back in the 70s, and such normal things as the water pump, some brake work, and some suspension parts which have been replaced over the years. The Wonderbar radio was recently rebuilt but the antenna connection needs some work. The following is a description from Wikipedia: For 1950, Cadillac showed all-new styling on every car in the lineup, including the $3,797 Sixty Special. While the opulent interior rivaled no other Cadillac, the exterior styling was nearly identical to the less-expensive Series 62 models. The chrome louver trim that was mounted on the rear roof panel since 1942 was now moved to the lower rear doors, just forward of the rear wheel wells. Although Cadillac utilized a wheelbase four inches (102 mm) longer than the Series 62, the 130” wheelbase was down 3” from the previous year. The 1950 Sixty Special weighed 4,136 pounds shipping weight in base form (over 4,300 pounds curb weight), and was powered by the same engine introduced for 1949 - the 331 cu in (5.42 L) Cadillac OHV V8 producing 160 horsepower (120 kW). For the first time in their history, over 100,000 Cadillacs were sold this year, and 13,755 of them was the Sixty Special – a new record for that model. Of historical note is that the actual 100,000th Cadillac that rolled off the assembly line was a 1950 Sixty Special. It has been a wonderful car to own and drive. Every time we take it out it turns heads and gets a lot of attention. People on the street often wave and give the thumbs up.
