Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is a highly modified suburban! I had this built for my wife 3 years ago and never imagined i would end up selling it after putting so much time, planning, collecting parts, fabricating, sweat, tears, Money, and I have to say TIME again.. I originally had this built to put out some high horsepower but was cut short when she said it was "getting too scary to drive" she said it was more power than she would need for a daily driver. So here it is for sale! This has got a rebuilt salvage title, if this bothers you, stop right here. I went through a couple suburbans and spent five years looking for a clean rust-free suburban to do my conversion. Each one of them were rust buckets. Then i found this one in Reno, Nevada that needed the hood, bumper, and grill replaced. Due to these minor issues, it was issued a salvage title. However, the rest of the vehicle including the head lights were untouched. I decided that it was more important for me to have a clean, rust free vehicle with a salvage title rather than a rust bucket with a clean title. This is a 1997 2500 Gmc suburban 4x4 it no longer has the 454 motor, nor the 4L80e trans. The new drive train powering this beast is 215p-pump Cummins engine with a 47rh transmission. There is a write up that was done on the swap on competition diesel forum, if you go to the "diesel conversion" section then click on the search option and type in " turbojoe " you will see the post written by my buddy under " another chevy cummins conversion " I tried to include the link but ebay no longer allows links in your adds. The conversion was done over three years ago and has provided us with great reliability on multiple trips out of state as far as new york, Florida, and many other states. On one occasion to Florida we achieved 19.5 mpg pulling a empty double axle trailer with three adults, four kids and all the luggage. This suburban is still being driven daily, although it does have some aspects that could use attention. The following modifications have been done to the conversion: two inch body lifttorsion bar adjuster kit used in a custom torsion bar support. auto world quad motor mount$rebuilt head, with three angle valve job, machined surfaces 60 lb cylinder head valve springsmachining and installing O-rings in the headmarine head gasketarp head studstwin turbos: hx35 on top of a billet waste gated k-31 215 hp p-pump set at 21* of timing (3kgsk removed, however a flat washer was installed)100 fuel platefull cut delivery valves (the fuel injectors are stock) 5" exhaust, to 7" tip kdp fixed has dodge ram Intercooler 47 rh transmission was rebuilt using the Dtt master rebuilt kit which includes the billet piston which allows an extra clutch.billet input shaft from Goerend brothers laminated flex plate from Goerend brothersgoerend brothers valve body (enables lock up in all forward gears)low stall tcs billet single disc converter (suncoast converter removed)lock up switch installed in the front dash over drive switch also installed in dash next to lock up (first three gears switch on their own)billet strut and anchor kit (in trans) tinted windows (drivers window has some scratches in it)electric fans installed, but not wired (was tied to toggle switch in the summer).seven way and four way trailer plugs with brake controllerextra leaf in the rear for towing (causes a more rough ride)yukon 3.42 gears for awesome freeway cruising (this does take away from bottom end, still have the stock 4.11 gears)I have the third row bench it was just out of the car when the pics were taken. Not a rust bucket! Although the underneath is dirty from salt and snow I took multiple shots from underneath the car to show there is no rust on the undercarriage body! If you live in MI or northern states you know how our cars look underneath after ten years... I may be forgetting other stuff but this is what i remember off the top of my head. I have not had to change links, bearing, tie rods, sway bars or such during my 3 years of owning it. Here are some aspects that could use tlc: oil leaks....a buddy and I looked at it recently and realized it needs a new vacuum pump gasket which i will include in the sale, but I think its coming from the timing cover gasket.. It can still be driven as long as you always check the oil, but should be addressed (I just got back last week from new york which was a 20 hour trip)typical gm sun visor straps/mirror covers brokenpassenger interior door handle just broke ($30 fix)cd player does not work, only tape player and radio worksspeedo and tach don't work so i use the gpscustom made front drive shaft is included but not hooked up due to re gearing rear axle, stock 4.11 gears included a/c not installed, but have a mounting bracket from auto world for the a/c compressor.one of the window buttons from the rear doors is broken, however all the controls from drivers side work, and can control that windowInterior could use some detailing (seats are not ripped. it just needs cleaning it was used to haul around kids)There are a few defects/dents that don't show up in the pics, I tried to point some of them out in the pictures, The drivers door has the most defects, especially on the inside of the door where the latch hits the striker some of the sheet metal had stress cracks(?) that were spot welded. all other doors don't have any of these issues. There is a hairline crack in the head right where the exhaust manifold bolts up to the head. It is probably about 1" long. There is a picture which shows me pointing to it, but its kind of hard to see in the pic. I think its a stress crack from the turbos weight. It does seep out some smoke from there, that can be seen on the valve covers. Best solution would be to pencil grind the crack and weld it shut.there is a round hole in the headliner near the back seats that held a flip down tv (look at the pic)the grid heater is not wired so during the winter you need to plug in in overnight (block heater) I am trying to be honest, not scare anyone.. If you think you can't deal with some of the work required, Don't bid on it! If you Have to ask your wife after you bid on it don't bid on it! I leave negative feedback in such circumstances. If you can't put up with diesel smoke or hazing don't bid on it! After the end of the auction I will need a $500 dollar deposit through PayPal within 48hrs. I still drive this everyday and if you are around the metro-Detroit area you are more than welcome to stop by and look at it. This will be a as is sale. I also reserve the right to end the auction early since it is also for sale locally. On Jan-06-12 at 08:28:14 PST, seller added the following information: Tire size is LT235 85 r16. It started life original as a 3/4 ton, so it does have the eight lug wheels.
