Vehicle Detail

1965 sunroof Beetle restored, on a 1969 IRS Chassis. Car is titled as a 1969, and is clear in MY name. I restored this car back in 1997. Body was painted by Classic car Coatings in Ft.Pierce, Florida. The pics don't really do it any justice. Right after I waxed it, and was taking pic, it started raining, so my pics aren't as good as I would have liked. This was not a backyard job. All work was done by Me, at my shop J.B.Bugs,in Jensen Beach,Florida. I've been in the Aircooled Volkswagen business since 1983. This is my personal car. I've known the last 5 owners of it before me. The pans have ZERO rust. The color is stunning in person. It is the VW factory color L360 Sea Blue, and is a basecoat/clear coat, wet-sanded to a mirror finish. I cannot drive the car Anywhere w/o getting constant compliments and attention. Don't bid on this car if you don't like Attention! The chassis: 1969 IRS rear suspension . 27mm rear torsion bars, Heavy duty springplates w/GSC Bronze bushings to eliminate traction hop.4-wheel gas shocks, 2" narrowed, adjustable balljoint front beam, caster shims, CB 2-1/2" drop spindles w/ Karman Ghia disck brakes up front, Type 3 VW rear brakes which give you larger wheel cylinders, shoes, and drums. Dual-circuit master cylinder, new about 2 months ago. Brakes are Awesome, and stop on a dime. All hoses were replaced. The driver side floor pan is original, the passenger side was replaced. I also ran a 3/8" steel fuel hose through the tunnel for increased fuel flow when running a larger motor. It has a stock IRS 4.12 transaxle w/ all new mounts. The wheels are Rare, Dan Gurney 5.5"X 15",fully polished. These have not been available since the 1970's. I really hate to give them up. Front tires are Kuhmho Ectsa 195/50-15. Rears are 205/65-15 Sonars, which only have about 100 miles on them. Drums are studed,w/chrome lugnuts. The interior: SCAT Elite recliners seats, mounted as low as possible to the floors to accomadate 6'3" self. I can extend my legs fully when the seat is slid all the way back. They have nice, smooth sliders if you short guys need to move up a bit. These are some super-comfy seats! Sadly,There IS a minor tear on each seat, where the handbrake lever rubbed on them.....Just thougght you should know. Door panels are TMI two-tone units. The dash is Custom, ALL STEEL, not one of those Cheesy, fiberglass pieces of crap! VDO speedo w/trip meter(no longer available), VDO Tach, oil pressure, clock, oil temp, and cylinder temp gauges. The cylinder temp is not hooked up, and only requires a sending unit to be installed on the spark plug for it to function. The wiring is already there for it. Old School Formuling France steering wheel(NLA) w/Working horn button!. Later model steering column assembly, allowing you the security of a real, working steering lock, and wiper switch on the column. I've used the original dash-mounted ignition switch to operate an electric, rotory fuel pump providing a little more security against theft. Headliner was installed by Town Upholstery, and is in excellant shape. I also installed a lighted cigerette lighter socket to either fire up your stogies, or plug in your cellphone device. Panasonic Am/F/M receiver CD player/ Pioneer 6x9 speakers in a rear mounted parcle shelf. Retractable seat belts up front! The body was painted inside and out, has all rubber seals replaces, including all the mechanicals and seals for the crank-back sunroof. This was a factory option that you don't find on too many of the old VW's these days. It operates smoothly as it should.I also installed a Rare, German made sunroof deflector, which you will seldome ever find for these cars. I went to the trouble to install all the original style chrome moulding in the window rubber, instead of using the cal-look stuff. All the side moulding is Polished ,stainless steel from Wolfsburg West. European style Fluted headlight glass with H-4 bulbs, and custom signal lights inside the housings, as well as Billet aluminum Horn-grill front turn signals from Tom Hingle at Acrylic/Billet Fantasies in Vero,Beach. Bumpers were also purchased from Wolfsburg West, but are starting to peel some chrome off on the front after 14 years of use. I had the decklid louvered by Boo Lowry in Palm City,Florida. He did an awesome job on it! I've also installed a working reverse light assembly from a 1967 model bug, and third brakelight mounted inside the rear cooling vents below the rear window. The front fog lights are NOS units made by Walfrin. I've also installed hinged, access doors in each side of the engine compartment to aid in installing/tuning dual carbs. New wiring harness installed from Wiring Works. Everything works! The paint is Not perfect, considering it has been garaged nightly since it was built. It shows a few minor wear/nicks from daily use, the bottom of the front apron has some scratches fro pulling up too close to curbs.Regardless, the car still looks better than most VW's I've seen on the road these days. The Motor: 1600cc Dual port rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago. It runs fine, using a Compufire electroning ignition in a vacuum advance bosch distributor from Aircooled.net. New Empi Header system with glasspack. 34-pict carb, CSP stainless breather box. Running Brad Penn racing oil. This car is in excellant mechanical shape, and should have no problem driving any distance. It has never left me stranded in 14 years! I'm not really thrilled about selling it, but my plans have changed, and I still have other project VW's to keep me occupied. Feel free to come by and check it out in person if you're near Jensen Beach, Florida. I can also be reached at my shop from 9-6 M-F(closed at lunch!)at 772-334-BUGS I'm selling this with No RESERVE, so someone should be able to score a Deal on a gorgeous ride. Before replacing the motor and trans with what's in it now, I had invested over $22,000, not counting a minute of my time. Yeah, I know. That was years ago.The car is not perfect, but it can palce well in Any VW show, and can be driven daily. I built it to be driven, and had been on countless trips with it. I'll miss her badly. I used to run a 2332 cc motor and built-up Quaiffe transaxle in this car, and had run it a few times at the dragstrip. It would make a nice car for the current Unlimited Steet East racing class..... not to mention a nice Christmas Gift as well! I have the car for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if need be.
