Vehicle Detail

Dodge Street Van: The "Street Van" package. This was advertised alongside the Lil' Red Express and Warlock trucks as "Adult Toys". The Street Van package consisted of a "Street Van" logo on the passenger and driver's side door in lieu of the Tradesman logos, chrome trim on the grille and windshield, simulated wood grain inlays in the steering wheel horn cover and passenger side glare shield, five slot chrome wheels or white spoked "off-road" type wheels, chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome trim on the gauges, smaller chrome side view mirrors, patterns and plans to create custom interiors, and membership in the "Dodge Van Clan". This package was available from the 1976 model year until it was discontinued in the early '80s. This was not an overly-popular option from the factory, and Street Vans are somewhat rare. The chrome metal Street Van emblems found on later Street Vans (emblems through mid-1978 were stickers) in good shape are quite valuable to collectors or restorers. The van up for auction is a 1978 Dodge Street Van based on the B200 model Van of that year.  The above write up gives  you an idea about the Street Van.  Though not the highest value collectible van, they are rare to find - especially with the metal plate "Street Van" logo on the doors (See Pictures).  I acquired this van as a restoration project knowing full well that it needs some work.  My plan was to use it as a working van and recreational vehicle.  It is great for camping trips or fishing trips.  You can fit a full size mattress in the back if you want (your choice).  Sadly, since owning it, I have only been able to fiddle a bit with the carbs to adjust the high speed idle.  The Van could use more loving. The Van did not pass CA Smog.  It was emitting high levels of NO2 and it was idling very high - around 1500 RPM idle.  I was able to narrow this issue down to a badly set idle adjustment and have since adjusted both the Idle and High Speed Idle.  Gotta love Carburetors!  The Carburetor still needs a good cleaning and service - preferably by someone knowledgeable.  I will be trying to smog it again since I adjusted the carburetor to see how it does.  If you from a Non-Smog state, then this is of  no issue to you. The Van has the Dodge 360 V8 Engine with the Carter Thermo-Quad (4) Barrel Carburetor.  The engine was Dodge's answer to the Ford 350 V8 and it is plenty powerful in this "Shortie" Van.  You will easily do 80+ MPH before you know it.  The Van has made two trips from San Francisco to Los Angeles and San Diego and back to San Francisco without so much as missing a beat.  The durability of this engine is well known.    The Van has two Captain's Chairs in front that completely swivel around.  They are in decent condition for originals that they are.  The van will require body work on the outside.  It has some rust on it - the worst being the one on top of the van on the passenger's side (see pictures).  I would say attending to that first would be the first priority.  All the external lights work.  The interior lights (Dome Lights) and the Dashboard lights don't work.  I believe it is either burnt fuses or bulbs somewhere.  The dash boards on these vans were know to be pretty finicky and I have not had the time to pull this one out. The Van also has some sort of heating unit in the back that actually works (See Pictures).  It turns on when you flip the Heat switch.  I don't know how to work it properly so I have not used it yet. The Van starts up every single time.  It has never let me know.  Even after it sat for a few months with the former owner, it started right up... albeit it coughed a little bit at first (Carbs you know).  I have the previous owner's title in hand and even have spare keys for it.  The tires are all good as well... it is ready to be driven away.  Like I said though, it does need to be smogged here in California. If you are buying it from out of state, then you will be responsible for transportation and such.  I will be able to assist with pick up if needed.  If you have any questions, please email me. My situation changed very recently and so I now need the van sold or gone.  Unfortunately, due to a sudden lay off I would like to avoid the cost of storage of the van.  I am very motivated to sell it now.  You are welcome to shoot me reasonable offers to consider.  I have also made a slight reduction in price.  Thanks.
