Vehicle Detail

No Reserve Auction - 1964 Pontiac Bonneville 389 V-8 Hard Top. According to PHS history sold new in 1964 in Pittsburgh, PA. This Bonneville spent its entire life in Meadville, PA before my purchase. I acquired this Bonneville from its second owner. In 1992, this Bonneville was parked in a garage and has been off the road ever since. This Bonneville has all the basic equipment seen on most Bonnevilles, but it got the Zebart treatment when new and as a result has much less rust than most old Pontiacs of this body type which spent their days up north. It has a non-numbers matching 389 4 bbl engine out of a 1963 Pontiac, hydromatic transmission and non-posi rear end. The car runs and drives but needs work to be road worthy. There is rust and body filler present. This Bonneville has most of its original Nocturn Blue paint, except for the hood and both lower rear quarter panels which were repainted in the 1980s. The paint is faded on the tops of the body panels and cracking on the hood and trunk. This paint is somewhat shinny and looks okay from twenty feet. The paint has lots of cracks, chips, scratches and dings and there are rust bubbles visible around both real wheel wells. The hood has surface rust where the paint has started to crack. The left rear quarter panel was recently damaged in a parking lot. The trunk pan has a rust hole about the size of your fist in the left rear section. It appears to be repairable and the trunk pan does not appear to need replaced as the mounts are good and the rest of the pan appears to be sturdy. There was rust repair on both lower rear quarter panels in front of the rear wheels. There are three spots on the floor pans about the size of your fist that were patched. Two at the corners of the rear pan under the rear seat and one spot on the left front pan. The floor pans appear to be structurally sound. The holes were covered by riveting sheet metal in place. Surface rust on the floors was treated with POR 15 and Dyna Mat insulation mats and new carpet was installed. The frame appears to be solid with no visible rust. However, the previous owner informed me that he had made repairs to the frame. There are areas of the frame that appear to have been repaired with fresh undercoating applied. I am unsure of the repair materials or methods used. It appears that the frame is good enough to use the car as a driver at this time. With the exception of the rust repairs mentioned above and the parking lot dent, the rest of the body panels are in nice shape with no signs of rust or collisions repairs. The Zebart treatment and consistent garage use, kept this car in nice shape. The odometer shows 20,000 miles which I believe to be 120,000 miles. The glass is in great condition. The doors, hood and trunk open and shut well and all windows roll up and down with ease. The tri-color interior is beautiful with new carpet, glove box liner, package tray, floor mats and arm rests. There are two small seam splits in the front seat bottom. The interior and exterior chrome is in great condition. All lights work, except for one low-beam head light. The AM radio works, but has a lot of static. Most of the front suspension components and the exhaust system have been replaced by the prior owner. The front brake shoes, hoses, hardware and bearings were replaced by me. The rear brakes were cleaned and the backing plates repainted. The brakes need to be adjusted and bled and the rear shocks replaced before use. The tires are 225 75 R 14 Radials with lots of tread. The engine runs okay but shows blue smoke out the tail pipe indicating oil burning. I installed new lifters, push rods and rocker arms and cleaned up the top of the engine, hoping to solve the oil burning problem, but it did not eliminate it and I think the engine should be rebuilt. I did a complete under hood detail, new water pump, fuel pump, heater core, re-cored Harrison radiator, replaced all hoses, painting the engine bay and installing all correct O. E. parts. The transmission leaks badly from around the pan gasket. There is a strange noise coming from the engine compartment. I can’t tell if it is coming from the engine or the transmission. However, I suspect it may be coming from the engine given the oil smoke, but I’m not sure. Overall, this is a decent, unrestored Bonneville with a great color combination. It has some rust issues, but compared to other 1964 big Pontiacs I have seen, the rust issues are typical. However, the body panels, interior and chrome are in much better than average condition. This is a NO RESERVE auction. No trades, no phone calls, no deals before the auction ends, no in person previews. Zero feedback bidders will be blocked and their bids cancelled. I reserve the right to block and cancel bids from bidders with a feed back score of less than 5. I have PHS and clear title in my name which matches the VIN on the car. Thank you for your interest.
