Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on an unsuual and attractive 1955 Packard 400, 2 door hardtop. The car is equipped with Packard's 352 V-8 engine, automatic transmission and unique to Packard the torsion bar load level suspension system. The car runs and drives very nicely. It has very attractive 1950s styling, is two toned turquoise and white, and features Packard's "cathedral" taillights. The wife has put her foot down, and says its time to reduce the fleet. Enough said! First of all let me say that this is a REAL AUCTION. There is NO RESERVE on this car, and it WILL SELL. Bidding starts at $1.00. The car is a 1955 Packard Model 400. It is a 2-door hardtop, and was considered to be a "senior" car in the Packard line. The car is original, including its 352 V8 engine. It is painted its original colors, but was repainted once before I got the car several years ago. I honestly don't know what the actual mileage is. The car runs and drives well. Since we have owned the car we have: Replaced the Transmission Replaced the exhaust system Had the engine tuned Had a switched electric fuel pump installed Had the carburetor rebuilt Had the automatic load leveler serviced Had the padded dash redone. Reupholstered the front seat Refurbished the upholstery on the back seat. Had passenger door panel rebuilt. Installed new headliner Installed new carpet. Put on new wide-whitewall radial tiresThe car is straight. Some imperfections: A little rust (some in in the lower right corners and in rockers, typical of 1950s cars. Some of the chrome moldings have dents or pits. Missing a couple of molding pieces on fender skits. Top rear molding on passenger side is not the correct piece. The correct piece fits 1956 Packard 400s, is the same as on the '56 convertibles, and is available through Packard venders. When I got the car some things had been dismantled for restoration. A few moldings (noted above) did not come with the car and I haven't replaced them. The glove box is not in the dash, but is in the trunk. Car has wonder-bar radio. I had it hooked up, but they disconnected the power antenna. One way or the other the radio is not playing, but does light up. Some of the gauges do not work. All the window glass is original. Glass in both doors is beginning to de-laminate had has small cracks. All window glass is flat glass.Other Interesting or Unique features: 1955 and 1956 Packards are the last cars to bear the Packard name that were designed and built by Packard. 1957 and 1958 models are based on Studebaker cars. I was told by the gentleman I bought the car from that there were very few 1955 400 cars done in turquoise. It is my understanding that the original carpet was the same shade as the exterior of the car. This car was produced late in the 1955 run, and has factory-installed 1956 side trim. I've never seen another 1955 with this trim treatment. As stated earlier, this cars is offered at NO RESERVE and WILL SELL. I would be happy to try and answer any questions you might have. My e-mail is melbacon@msn.com. My cell phone is 303-618-8518. The car is currently located in Brighton, Colorado, just north of Denver. All taxes, fees, and shipping, etc., are the sole responsibility of the buyer. I am willing to deliver the car within a fifty mile radius of the Denver area. Payment and terms. $500 down is due at the end of the auction, payable through PayPal. The remaining balance is due within a week of the end of the auction, and is to be paid by bank draft, cashier's check, or wire transfer. I will not release the car for shipping or send the title and bill of sale until funds have been received and any checks have cleared your bank. Happy Bidding. This really is a nice car. Good luck! Let me know how if I can help. Mel
