Hello. Up for auction is my 1979 Mercury Cougar XR7. The car is in great “unmolested” condition. I am only the second owner and it has 84k original miles. It is triple red with the XR7 package, so it has the rally wheels, sport gauge cluster, and rear half vinyl top. The interior is in excellent condition an shows virtually no wear. The car has never been smoked in (see picture of lighter and ash tray) and the only 2 issues I am aware of on the inside is that the “joystick” for the outside mirror on the driver’s door fell down into the door panel. A clip must have come off or something, I honestly have not taken it apart to see and the mirror was where I wanted it anyways. Also, the plastic cover for the seat belt reel on the floor driver’s side is there but is cracked. Outside, the paint is original (the only exception is the rocker panels on both sides have been touched up from rock chips accumulated over time thrown up from the tires) and is still very shiny and shows well. There is NO bondo or filler anywhere in the car, all the original metal. It does have the usual rock chips, nicks, door dings and such that you would expect a 32 year old car to have. I am probably being over critical, I just want to be clear so the buyer knows what he is getting. I have taken and included many pictures so you can be the judge as well. The vinyl top was replaced this year by a professional auto upholstery shop and looks fantastic as and I had accidentally bumped it and tore it while carrying some stuff through the garage (I was very angry with myself!). All of the chrome is there and is in great shape. The side moldings do have some various minor door dings nicks and such, again nothing major, just wanting to be up front. Underneath the floor pans are 100% solid and original. Part of the reason the car is in such great shape, is because the original owner had it Ziebart rust proofed when it was new, and also had the interior protection applied. All the original stickers to that effect are still there and I took pictures as well. The tires were starting to show a few cracks from age (they still had 75% tread however), so I did just install a brand new set of all season white wall radial tires that only have maybe 30 miles on them so the new owner wouldn’t have to worry about a blow out or anything. I have all the original owner’s manual and all paperwork from when it was purchased that go with it as well. The engine is a 302 V8 with an auto transmission and nine inch rear end. The engine bay is original and has not been all spray painted up and ruined like you see so many times on older cars. I guess I just prefer keeping my cars that way, to each his own. The car runs excellent and drives, shifts, stops, and handles as it should. It goes down the road with a great solid feel with no rattles, bangs, or clunks. Everything works to my knowledge except for the clock. I would like the car paid for within 3 days of auction close. I accept PayPal or other certified funds only. I have clear title in hand ready for transfer. Pick-up or shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer. I will however meet you or your shipper for pick-up when needed. I can store the car for free for 2 weeks, any longer would have to be discussed and agreed upon.
