This is a beautiful Signal Red 1969 280sl Mercedes-Benz Pagoda. This car is in excellent condition inside and out. You are bidding on a privately owned 1969 classic roadster that I have owned for the past 10 years. This car has been stored in a heated garage under cover for my entire ownership. Although this car is not in show/mint condition it still turns heads everywhere and has been the background of many new friends pictures. This car is Signal Red with bright chrome outlining its timeless frame. The soft top is black German Canvass and was restored/installed 8 years ago. The hard top comes with the car and it matches the Signal Red exterior. There were over 20,000 dollars of restoration done to this car from 2001 to 2003 including new leather seats with horsehair contour seat and back cushions, proper carper, door panels, new wood dash, and console trim. Only 2,000 miles put on this car in 10 years. Weddings, Anniversarys, and a few other inductions that needed this gem to be shown off. The engine starts first turn EVERY TIME! The car runs strong, cool, and smoothly. The cylinders have a high and even compression. The rare 4 speed transmission is new and shifts smoothly and precisely. This roadster has newer Bilstein shocks, tires, brake calipers, cleaned rear differential, new fuel lines, brake lines, rotors, pads, and many other minor restorations of bushings and hoses. This roadster will not dissapoint you! All personal inspections are welcome, I will try to accomodate all different times for the car to be shown and inspected. Vehicle Condition: This classic roadster is in excellent condition but it is not in mint or showroom shape. This car can easily be placed in a collection or in the mint category with some restoration but it is a excellent daily driver that shows well, and runs better. The Signal red paint does have a few scratches and nicks but non that take away from the beauty of this 42 year old beauty. The sunvisors are only things that this car is missing. The becker radio is original and works well with a fully restored speaker, refurbished by Becker North America themselves. Has the car ever had rust repairs? From my knowledge the car has never had rust repairs. I have pictures of the undercarriage and you can look at them I will email them to you if you email me at LSC200024c@netscape.net, I have only owned the car for 10 years and when I bought it I was told it was never repaired and never needed repaired. What conditions is the paint because you said there are some chips and nicks? If you look around the hood in the pictures you can see some chips around it from opening and closing. There is a bubble in the drivers door and a small crack in paint on passenger fender. Other then that the paint is is in great shape. Is there any rust I cant see on the chrome? The chrome is rust free and so is the car. There are no mechanical problems with this car at all. Does the radio work? The radio works and works well but where I am located we do not get any radio stations so the static comes in very clear but you have to add a hidden antenna or drive to a location that gets better radio service then us. Does the hardtop stand come with the car? Depending on shipping and location I am sure we can work out a deal where you get the hardtop stand as well but let me get the car sold first before I get rid of the hardtop stand from the pictures. What is your reserve? My reserve is in high 20's, this car in this condition is appraised at 30k-32k with the hardtop and with some restoration of paint it can easily be worth much more. Do you have documentation on the restoration improvements that were done? I do not have restoration documents, the cars interior was updated over 14 years ago and the documents are long gone, but I do have the service documents from my ownership and the original posting I bought it from showing the work they did. How smooth does the hardtop work? The hardtop and softtop both work well and I have never had a problem with them. The tops are in very good working conditions and slip right up and on. Can I see the car via skype? This car is in great condition for its age and even better condition for a car thats actually still driven from time to time. All inspections are welcome and appreciated. If you can not get to NY I will gladly set up a skype chat via cell phone or laptop but its very difficult to get service to the back garage. I understand purchasers interested are all over the US and I will gladly do anything I can to show you whatever you want on the car. Any other questions dont hesitate to ask?
