Vehicle Detail
This authentic California "Black Plate" Porsche 356 C Coupe is the holy grail of the 356's From a rock solid chassis and matching chassis to engine numbers from the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this is an excellent opportunity to create value from a restoration. I would like to tell you that it has totally solid floors but there is some rust perforation on the drivers floor panel where your heel would rest as you sit in the car. This is an unfortunate situation where the car was sitting outside in southern CA. and on the rare occasion that it did rain, water came through the dried out seals and was trapped under the rubber floor mat causing the damage. The Passenger floor is solid and the battery box area is solid. There is a tear in the trunk floor near the battery box from hitting something like a curb but I have never seen an original battery tray on a 356! The structural pieces of the chassis are rock solid, the longitudinal sections and tunnel are outstanding. There is some minor rust bubbling in the bottom of the doors which is to be expected from a car of this age. While the undercarriage looks crusty in the photos, it is really in amazing condition, the only scary rust in the car is in the drivers floor. The other panels have the original under-coating. When I pulled off a little bit of the undercoating I found perfect shiny steel. This car needs a complete restoration but I can't think of a better 356 to start with as it was originally in a spectacular color of sky blue (i'm a sucker for that shade of blue) and it hasn't been all hacked up by terrible mechanics over the years. The engine turns freely, the steering is silk smooth and the transmission shifts into all gears. I have not attempted to start the engine as the brakes, shocks and tires make it unsafe to drive so why bother with this task unless you want to overhaul all mechanical components. The wiring harness is in very good shape and the car is very complete. The rear glass is with the car, it was removed during shipping because I was fearful that it would blow out of the opening since the seal is so crusty. The steering wheel center hub comes with the car but it is in terrible dried out condition from the heat of the sun. All of the marker lenses are faded beyond repair or broken. Otherwise, all major parts are there as you can see from the photos. On Nov-25-11 at 06:36:52 PST, seller added the following information: This is a 1963 as the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and C designation would suggest. On Nov-25-11 at 06:42:19 PST, seller added the following information: It is actually a 1964 - as the Certificate of Authenticity states. I'd remove and relist correctly, but it seems a few of you have done your homework and know it is a '64. Those who are keeping a keen eye on it, we'll leave it up.
