For your consideration is an all original 1972 Mercedes Benz 450SL convertible and with removable hard top that was a California car for 30 years and has been protected by a Car Cover in Virginia for the past 10 years. It is well equipped with a V8 4.5 Liter engine, power steering, power windows, power door locks, with both convertible and detachable hard top. It runs and looks well. It can be driven anywhere as it is but will need some attention to bring it back to prime condition. The actual mileage is unknown. The original paint has a couple of rust spots on the trunk and a couple on the hood. The convertable top should last one or two more years. The tires are good. The heater and air condition do not work at present. The radio does not work.. The gear shift lever and gear shift indicator are not quite in alignment (The gear shift lever has to be pushed sllightly above the gear indicated.) The passenger side door must be opened from inside the car. There is a small 1" slit in the driver's seat. One of the headrests is original to the car and the other different year Mercedes. The chrome plated seat brackets to cover the seat hinges are missing. The original front floor carpets are torn in places. The dashboard has a few cracks from the days in the California sun. The fan/blower runs whenever the key is turned on.The convertible top should be good for another year or two. The speedometer reads 56,143 but it has not worked in the ten years I have had the car (since 2002) and the actual mileage is unknown. I have driven the car only locally and would estimate that I may have averaged driving it 1,000 miles a year. All in all a great candidate for restoration. The photographs are from September, 2011 and it has been stored under a car cover since that time. The Mercedes must be picked up or transportation arranged for within 7 days after the close of the auction. We do have a clear title that will be conveyed upon final payment.
