Vehicle Detail

Beautiful 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet. It is the Boutique edition that only came in white, with white leather interior and the white snowflake wheels. The white leather rear seats are original and they show the original patina though they have been kept clean and treated. The front seats were sourced at a later date as the previous owner had some old Corrado seats in the car. I replaced those with a set of the original seats that should have come with the car and but they needed to be refurbished. I had new leather inserts put installed and they are very soft, not ripped or torn as you usually see. There are a couple of spots on the passenger side that I have not been able to remove. These seats, being original VW Cabriolet seats, are also the Recaro sport seats. When the seats were taken apart for repair, they had the Recaro insignia on the inside of the frame. The tilt mechanisms were fixed at the time they were apart. New reclining wheels were installed at that time. The snowflake wheels show some curbing that is a result of use over the years. The tires are in good shape. I have replaced the chrome center moldings that were partly missing from the car with the later model, all black moldings, that came on the 91-93 model Cabriolets. I replaced the rear lights with some brighter, European taillights which really make a difference in the look. They were actually imported from Germany as my brother sourced them for me over there. The headlights and separate Hella high beams are all operational, nothing broken. I have spares for the expensive, Hella high beams. As for the interior, it has some unique features. Starting with the kneebar, I replaced the original black one with a white one. It has a larger tray extension. I also replaced the center console and shifter boot with white pieces. The downside of the white kneebar is that it interferes with the window handles. You have to open the door slightly to work the handles. The fix for that is to replace the white kneebar with a black, narrow one which I can do for the buyer if desired. The white fixtures are not original to the car but come from a later model. I also replaced the original small door speakers with the larger, later model type with new speakers and plastic housings. The rear speakers have also been upgraded to the larger, later model ones and the speakers are also new. The radio is a JVC replacement of the original unit. I repaired and fixed the glovebox with another unit. They break at the hinge. Factory locking gas cap with key. The top has been replaced and has no rips, tears or wear. The headliner is without rips or tears as well. The plastic snap attachment points for the tonneau top are not bent, cracked or broken. You have a choice of the red or white tonneau top that comes with the car or buy the extra one to have two. The outside running lights are all without cracks or breaks and the original factory, rusted screws are all replaced with stainless steel pieces. I also replaced all the shift linkage with upgraded materials at the wear points. Read up on this if you want to know what it involves and how it is done. It makes a huge difference in shifting, but this car and others I've driven like it still shift unlike anything I've driven. The mileage is not accurate as I had to replace the speedometer to get the clock and gauges working. The original showed 93,000 or thereabouts, but the seller told me that the odometer had not been working. Therefore, i don't know the exact mileage. The plastic strip in the rubber, front window molding needs to be replaced. It has the a couple of dings and a surface spot on the right door. The car has no discernable rust issues that I could tell. The title is clear. I believe that there was an accident at the front right corner as you can see where some metal was replaced. I believe the fender may have been repaired at the front. When I was doing the front right strut, there were not problems replacing it so nothing bent or broken on the undercarriage. Looks like there was just some sheet metal damage. The autocheck report comes back as having happened in 2001. The vehicle has new Koni SRT Street shocks front and rear. It has a newer exhaust system as well. Fuel filters are new. Since I just did the shocks and struts, I will have to get the vehicle aligned and that will be completed before the buyer picks up the car. Also availabe at extra cost is a service manual and about three full boxes of spare parts as well as the previously mentioned tonneau top. You will need a pickup or another car if you are going to buy the spares. (Not a bad idea as some of the parts are either unobtainable or very expensive new.) This vehicle runs great and starts without issue, even when off the trickle charger for a while. It does not smoke or run rough. This vehicle is sold "AS IS" without warranty, express or implied. I reserve the right to end this listing at anytime should the vehicle no longer be available for sale. Any questions, call on 843-412-1786.
