Vehicle Detail
No Reserve Auction - 1964 Pontiac Bonneville 389 V-8 2 Door Hard Top. According to PHS history sold new in 1964 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This Bonneville spent its entire life in Meadville, Pennsylvania before my purchase. I acquired this Bonneville from its second owner. This Bonneville was parked in a garage in 1992 and has been off the road ever since. This Bonneville has all the basic equipment seen on most Bonnevilles, but it got the Zebart treatment when new and as a result does not have the typical rust thru which plagues most ol Pontiacs of this body type. it has a non-numbers matching 389 4 bbl engine out of a 1963 Pontiac, hydromatic transmission and non-posi rear end. This car runs and drives, but needs work to be road worthy. There is rust and body filler present. This Bonneville has most of its original piant except for the hood and both lower rear quarter panels which were repainted in the 1980s. The paint is faded on the tops of the body panels and cracking on the hood and trunk. The body is a dark blue called Nocturn Blue. This paint is somewhat shinny on the sides and looks decent from twenty feet. The paint has lots of cracks, chips, scratches and dings and there are rust bubbles visable around both real wheel wells. There is surface rust starting on the hood. The left rear quarter panel was recently hit in a parking lot. The trunk pan has a rust hole in the left rear corner about the size of your fist. It appears to be repairable and the trunk pan does not appear to need replaced as the mounts are good and the rest of the pan appears to be sturdy. There is evidence of rust repair on both lower rear quarter panels in front of the rear wheels. There are three spots on the floor pans about the size of your fist that were patched by pop-riviting sheet metal in place. Two at the corners of the rear pan under the rear seat and one on the left front floor pan. The floor pans appear to be structurally sound. These repairs were done simply to keep moisture out of the interior. The floors were treated with POR 15 and insulation mats and new carpet was installed. The frame appears to be solid with no rust holes. However, the previous owner informed me that he had made repairs to the frame There are areas of the frame thaat appear to have been repaired with fresh undercoating applied. I am unsure of the repair materials or methods used to make the repairs. It appears that the frame is good enough to use the car as a driver at this time. With the exception of the rust areas mentioned and the parking lot dent, the rest of the body is incredibly rust free with no signs of rust or rust or collision repairs. The Zebart treatment and consistent garage use, kept this car in amazing shape. All of the exterior and interior chrome is in amazing shape considering it has not been redone. The glass in in great condition. The doors, hood and trunk open and shut well and all windows roll up and down with ease. The tri-color interior is beautiful with new caarpet, glove box liner and package tray, floor mats and arm rests. The left front seat bottom has two small seam splits. The odometer shows 20,000 miles which I believe is really 120,000 miles. The front suspension components appear to have been mostly replaced by the prior owner. The rear shocks need to be replaced before use. The front brake shoes, wheel cylinders, brake hoses, hardware and bearings were replaced by me. The rear brakes were cleaned and the backing plates painted. New intermediate pipe, muffler and tail pipe. New Battery. The engine starts and runs good, but it shows blue smoke out the tail pipe indicating oil burning. I installed new lifters, push rods and rocker arms and cleaned the top of the engine hoping to make a difference, but it did not. I also did a complete underhood detail, new water pump, fuel pump, heater core, recored Harrison radiator, replace all hoses, painting the engine bay and installing all correct O.E parts. The transmission leaks badly from the pan gasket. There is a noise coming from either the engine or the transmission. Given the oil smoke from the engine, I suspect the engine is making the noise, but I am not sure which it is. The brakes need to be bled and adjusted and the rear shocks replaced before use. It has 225 75R 14 radial tires with lots of tread. Some of the tail lights and one head light does not work. Overall, this is a unique car with great color combination. It can be driven after making engine and other repairs as mentioned. Compared to other 1964 big Pontiacs I have seen, the rust issues are typical, but the body panels and chrome are in much better than average condition. This is a NO RESERVE auction. No trades, no phone calls, no deals before the auction ends, no in person previews. Zero feedback bidders will be blocked and their bids cancelled. I reserve the right to block and cancel bids from bidders with a feed back score of less than 5. I have PHS history and clear title in my name which matches the VIN on the car. Thank you for your interest.
