Vehicle Detail
No Reserve Auction - 1964 Pontiac Bonneville 389 V-8 Convertible. According to PHS history sold new in 1964 in Chicago, Illinois. This Bonneville spent its entire life in Illinois and Ohio before my purchase. I acquired this Bonneville from its third owner. At some point in the 1980s, this Bonneville was parked in a garage and has been off the road ever since. this Bonneville has all the basic equipment seen on most Bonnevilles, plus three unusual options, 562 Sepcial Order Leather Bucket Seats, 601 Console with Floor Shifter and Robin's Egg Blue convertible top (now black). As far as I can tell, it retains all of its original drive train componetns, including 27 P 389 4 bbl engine, hydromatic transmission and non-posi rear end. The carter AFB carburator and alternater are not numbers matching original to the car. This can be a running and driving car with the replacement of the fuel and brake lines muffler and tail pipe and battery. The engine starts and runs decent with no smoke or strange noises. The car goes into reverse and drive. I am uncertain of the condition of the transmission as I have never driven it on the open road. It appears that the engine and transmission have never been out of the car. There is rust and body filler present. This Bonneville was repainted a slightly lighter shade of dark blue (originally Nocturn Blue) in the 1980s. This paint is somewhat shinny and looks decent from twenty feet. The paint has lots of chips, scratches and dings and there are rust bubbles visable around both real wheel wells. The left rear quarter panel shows evidence of a minor dent repair. The trunk pan is rusted out in places and should be replaced at some point. There is evidence of rust repair on both lower rear quarter panels in front of the rear wheels. There is some surface rust on the floor pans but they appear to be solid. The frame appears to be solid with no repairs or rust holes, however, it has alot of surface rust. The lower front fenders have evidence of rust repair. There is surface rust on the under side of the hood. The interior is showing its age. Both front door panels, carpet and front seat upholstery should be replaced if you plan to use it as a driver. The power convertible top fabric is new. It comes with new top cylinders which need to be installed. The top will go up and down manually with help. The left front window track needs to be replaced so the window can roll up and down. The odometer shows 69,000 miles which I believe is likely the original mileage given the car's history and the fact that it has original rivited ball joints and original heater hoses and clamps. The front suspension components appear to be mostly original, with new shocks installed by the prior owner. It has 225 70R 14 radial tires with lots of tread, installed by the prior owner. Some of the tail lights and one head light does not work. Overall, this is a unique convertible with great color combination and rare options and some rust issues. It can be cleaned up and driven with new fuel lines, brake lines, and other repairs. Compared to other 1964 big Pontiacs I have seen, the rust issues are typical, but not so terrible as to make this a project to avoid. This is a NO RESERVE auction. No trades, no phone calls, no deals before the auction ends, no in person previews. Zero feedback bidders will be blocked and their bids cancelled. I reserve the right to block and cancel bids from bidders with a feed back score of less than 5. I have PHS history and clear title in my name which matches the VIN on the car. Thank you for your interest.
