Vehicle Detail
Hi, I am selling my 62 Galaxie 427 4 speed car. I bought this car in '99 as a X code 352/auto car. I spent the next 5 years looking for the correct parts to modify it into a 406 clone. All that changed when I found a 427 instead. The car has the correct XL clutch and brake pedals. Correct console with a correct 4 speed shifter and a nos shifter boot. (nos when it was installed). The engine is a industrial 427 that I had bored .017 to 4.250. I installed a 1UB 428 Cobra Jet crankshaft and a set of forged Diamond stroker pistons and rings. The effective cubic inches are 451. The heads are Edelbrock 60089 427 aluminum heads. The intake is a correct Ford low riser with C5AF-BC and BD carbs dated 502 and 503. The long cast iron headers are correct for a 63 427 R code car. I installed a precision oil pumps blueprinted high volume pump, Rollmaster timing set with torrington thrust bearings, Comp 293S solid lifter camshaft with billet roller rockers and billet end stands also from Precision Oil pumps. The distributor is a Mallory Unilite. The 4 speed transmission is a Borg Warner T10 with the correct factory shifter. The flywheel is a steel McLeod. The rear is a 9" with 3.50 open pumpkin installed. I stripped the car down to bare metal including removal of glass and door hardware and repainted the car. There was no major rust in the car. It had one minor spot on the lower quarter panel that had rust from the lower stainless trim screw. A patch the size of a half dollar was welded in to take care of it. The car has been driven almost daily since then and the paint shows parking lot dings and a couple of hail dents when we got caught out in a storm a couple of years ago. The interior was redone with reproduction parts from Dearborn Classics at the same time. The interior door and quarter upholstery panels are original. I have had a lot of fun with this car and I am now looking for a 63.5 Galaxie to play with. I would consider a trade for a rebuildable 63.5 with values being appropriate for each vehicle. If you need a good rust free body and frame for your G or B code 406 car I may consider selling the rolling chassis by itself since I could use the drivetrain parts on a 63. I would prefer to keep this car intact though. I have documentation on the refurbishment including pictures if interested. The engine has a little over 4000 miles since it was built. The car is painted to be a nice driver and not a high quality show car. It draws a lot of attention where ever I go. I did not intend this to be a trailer queen and it would not take much to get it into that condition. I wanted to drive it and I didn't feel it necessary to waste the dollars making a trailer queen. The car is scarey fast. When I built the 427 I decided to take an afternoon to install it. Once I pulled the 390 that was in it I looked at the dingy engine compartment and decided to clean it up and paint it while I was there. I pulled the front end off to get everything clean and realized it would be the time to replace bushings, shocks, and front springs while I was there and I did. Since I had the front end off I decided to pull the stainless and fix dents and paint the car. While I was there. One thing led to another while I was there and I wound up stripping the car, replacing all weatherstrips, a new front windshield, new paint (Dupont Chroma 1) and reassembling using as many new or reproduction parts as I could. While I was there. What started out as an afternoon changing a motor took me 4 months to complete. This is a ready to buy and drive home car and I wouldn't hesitate to take it to either coast. If you want to talk I can be reached at 913 and 683 and 0500 Ray
