Vehicle Detail

Up for bid today I am offering my 1978 Mercury Zephyr Z7. This car is the Mercury twin of the Ford Fairmont Futura, only with Mercury badges, unique styling cues, and "Ride Engineered" suspension. There is no category for Mercury Zephyr which is why I am listing it here. Fairmonts and Zephyrs are FOX chassis vehicles as are `79-`93 Mustangs. As such most 5.0 Mustang parts will bolt right on, making them excellent candidates for building a sleeper. The early cars, such as this one, were very light. This particular example sports lightweight aluminum bumpers, manual windows, A/C delete, and weighs only 2,652 lbs. It was ordered brand new from Zeidler Motors in Patchogue by a local woman who drove it from '78 up until she stopped driving at age 90, racking up a grand total of 54,000 miles. I bought it from her at that point and have had it since 2007. Since that time I have rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the master cylinder, brake booster, battery and tires. It starts right up at the turn of a key. It is registered and insured and every weekend I drive it up to the highway, turn around, and head home, a trip of about 3 miles. In fact, I just got back from taking her out for a little spin. I registered her in September with the intention of using her as a station car, but then my friend gave me back the '91 CRX Si I loaned him and I've been using that car instead. So basically I am out of excuses to keep this car and it is time to bid it a fond adieu. She runs great, as you would expect a 54k mile car to do. Powertrain is the 200cid inline six cylinder engine backed by a C4 automatic transmission which shifts flawlessly. The body is pretty good considering that it is 34 years old. There is some rust behind the rear wheels and a shallow scrape in the right rear quarter panel ahead of the tail light. Floor pans, rocker panels, and trunk floor are totally solid. Tires and battery are new like two years ago and have seen very few miles as the car is not used for transportation. Sometimes I take her out on a lark for an errand just to do something different but that's about it. I have her insured as a classic, which costs me less than $100 a year. Another added bonus, here in New York she is emissions exempt. All the lights work. The gas gauge worked when I got the car, however it has stopped working for some reason. Master cylinder and brake booster were upgraded to heavy duty 5.0 Mustang parts when replaced. Tune-up parts are all pretty new except for the wires as there is nothing wrong with them. I do have a new set of wires for the car which are included. I have receipts for most of this stuff and probably other things that I forgot. I do have a bunch of original paperwork for the car including a copy of the original bill of sale and a copy of the original owner's title certificate along with the blue folder with the owner's manual and whatnot that came with the car from the dealership. I also have both sets of original keys. There are some spare parts in the trunk which go with the car. Included is a low-mile '93 Mustang K-frame and control arms. This will allow you to swap in a V8 or 2.3L Turbo if you feel so inclined. There is also a full set of springs and struts from an '87 Mustang GT along with the fast-ratio steering rack from the same car. A pair of nearly new take off Monroe Sensi-Trac rear shocks from an '86 GT round out the suspension parts. There are also spare brake calipers, new brake pads, the plug wires I mentioned before, a rear brake hose and some other odds and ends. Car is sold AS IS. There are no warranties of any kind. $195 deposit due within 72 hours of auction close or sale will be cancelled and car will be re-listed. Payment in full is due on or before transfer of vehicle, keys, and title, which is to occur within 14 days of auction close. CASH ONLY no checks of any kind. Car is located in East Moriches, NY and must be picked up there. License plates do not go with the car. I may be able to arrange local delivery for an additional charge. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks for Looking and Happy Bidding. On Nov-09-11 at 02:41:35 PST, seller added the following information: I have added a Virtual Test Drive so you can see how well it starts, runs and drives. The noise you hear just before I turn the key is me depressing the pedal to the floor twice per FoMoCo instructions.
