Vehicle Detail

Up for bid: 1937 Lincoln Zephyr coupe body shell mated to late-model Ford frame, w/ 351w & auto trans ***NO RESERVE - This car sells to high bidder*** I've already received one offer on the car at $800, so bidding starts at $800 I bought this coupe as part of a larger parts lot about 3 months ago with no real plan for it. The coupe body shell is very solid - no rust through on the main body. It has unfortuantely been modified by the lower floor pan section being removed and placed atop a late model frame. A freind suggested it might be a pick-up frame, but while cleaning the interior out, I identifed a Ford wiring harness with a plastic protective cover labeled "xxxRBIRD" which I assume to mean Thunderbird. The plastic cover and wiring technology in the car places it and the floor pan it sits in somewhere in the early or mid-80's. The late model floor pan is starting to rust through. In addition to the frame swap, a 351w (possibly the T-Bird's original engine) is currently nested between the front fender walls and is mated to an automatic transmission - the rear axle appears to also be from the late model T-Bird donor car. Condition of engine and rest of drivetrain are unknown. The only thing that remains original Zephyr on this car is the body shell. In addiiton to the floor being removed, the dashboard and lower sections of the wheel well have also been cutout to facilitate mating to the new frame. The doors, rear fenders, rear trunk lid and front passenger fender are all lost to time and were not included with the car when I acquired it 3 months ago. The only additiojnal parts I have located for this part that are original / period-correct Lincoln are the front driver fender and main front grille (both pictured). Both appear rougher than the body itself, but I was assured these parts were from this car. This is car is being sold as-is, where-is, no warranty or guarantee. What you see is what you are getting - mostly! Pictures were taken in August when i acquired the car. I've since cleaned and disposed of everyihtng in the interior cabin that was ruined (dash wiring remains as found) and the truck was also cleaned out. Chrome air cleaner also removed - can be returned and included with car. I have many other Zephyr parts, especially 36-37 - also a few 38-39 pieces i've acquired over the years. I may be able to offer the winning bidder addiiotnal parts to be negotiated at the time of pick-up. I've decided to sell for several reasons. 1st, at the same time I acquired a 37 sedan still in more complete original condition. This and my original 37 Coupe will keep my focus for the future - I dont REALLY need a 3rd Zephyr! 2nd, to keep it, i would incur monthly storage unit costs, and 3rd, I'm considering a job transfer out of state that will take me away for the next year or two. I cant mothball 3 projects. I may even need to reconsider the sedan I just acquired at a later date. PAYMENT: I require a $300 deposit via PayPal within 24hrs of end of auction. The balance in cash or cashiers check (drawn on well-known bank) at time of pick-up. If you are having a service pick-up and transport, remainder of payment will need to be mailed (cashiers check again as above) in advance or balance to be sent via PayPal. Please note if you plan to pay via PayPal and bidding gets above $1000 - I'm going to ask the winning bidder to pay the balance plus the 3% PayPal fee. I'm not worried about the fee on the deposit, just knwo that with an expected large listing fee from ebay - I dont intend to pay that amount twice over jsut to accept a final PayPal payment. SHIPPING: This one is totally up to the winning bidder. Car is currently stored outdoors - I may be able to get it into a garage within the next week or two, but this car must be picked up within approx. 3 weeks of end of auction (let's say Wednesday December 7th for a final pick-up). Loosing current storage, weather (it's going to get cold fast!), and business travel plans are all contributing factors. If I have to keep car longer than that for you, winning bidder agress to pay for any and all transport and storage costs. I have a several recommendations if you need help arranging shipping within the lower 48 states - email me to discuss these options. If you are in Canada, Europe or elsewhere - you are compeltely on your own. Sorry, i just dont have time to help fill out customs forms, etc. I'll help a contracted carrier load the car, but that's about it. WARRANTY: none. period. You buy this car as-is, where is. This car is selling without reserve - high bid takes it. I do not want to list this car again, there is no changing your mind at time of pick-up because you didnt see something in a picture clearly - IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR NEED A DIFFERENT PICTURE VIEW, EMAIL ME BEFORE BIDDING! I hope this covers all the details - car could be an awesome project to a upstart hot rodder or aspiring Boyd Coddington / Chip Foose designer! Happy bidding and bid to win! EDIT ADDITIONAL: Car does come with a good/current State of Michigan title. Car is titled as a 1937 Lincoln. On Nov-12-11 at 20:49:04 PST, seller added the following information: 11/12 EDIT: More additional information... In response to a lot of inquiries, I need to post some additional information for all parties. The door sills: The car seems to have both original 37 door sills still largely intact with at least the oroginal 2-3" height and the original exterior mount points for the original style running board (not included). It's hard to tell on the interior where this sill ends as most of the interior connection joint was sealed off with regular household expansion foam (I know how ridiculous this is, but this is how it came to me). Additional pictures and video I took today can tell the story a lot better (see link below). Body condition: I repeat... I DO NOT HAVE DOORS, TRUNK LID OR FENDERS FOR THIS CAR except for the passenger fender pictured. I did not get these parts with the car, and was told the doors were stolen years ago. THEY ARE LONG GONE - PLEASE STOP ASKING. I can provide contacts of club members who may be of help to the winning bidder. To those new to Zephyr's - this is not the same as a 37 Ford. Parts are extremely hard to come by - but not impossible. That's why I recommended this car be sold for body section parts to a restorer, or to a hot rodder who wants to build something custom. Please realize what you are getting into before bidding. Parts for Zephyr's in general are not cheap - especially parts specific to Coupe's! I do have some extra body pieces from other 37 Sedans including fenders, hoods and grille. parts books show the front and rear fenders are identical from coupe to sedan. You are however bidding only on what is seen, the body shell, frame, motor and trans, the 1 fender and grille. The extra pieces I have are in various condition and may be negotitated at the time of vehicle pick-up at EXTRA COST. I DO NOT HAVE SPARE COUPE DOORS OR TRUNK LID - these parts are unique to the Coupe body - sedan doors and trunk lids cannot be used. I do not detect any overuse of bondo whatsoever - please see the additional pictures and see the video of the interior to see the original sheetmetal still largely intact including the original trunk floorpan. New pictures & video: See these already posted original August pictures and new additional detailed pictures I took today here at Photobucket: http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s17/JimNap/1937%20Zephyr%20Coupe%202/ In addition I took a 5min long video that Im loading to YouTube that all of you can play, pause, rewind and replay to your hearts content: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH3YH87Uun8 Dimensions: Some of you have asked for dimensions to plan shipping. here is what I got from today's visit to the car: As-is on frame: 68" height, 69" width Body only (if it were cut free from current chassis): 55" height, 69" width In either case the over all length remains 16" exactly (I still recommend at least an 18' foot trailer). Length from wheel patch to wheel patch: 11'6" Front overhang: approx 1'4" Rear overhang: approx 3'foot Shipping: I have three recommendations. 1) Fly into Detroit-metro airport, from there rent a U-haul and car trailer and tow back to your home. For those that have asked, yes I can pick you up at the airport and take you to a Uhaul service center. Time from Detroit-metro airport (DTW) to car storage location is only 10 minutes. 2) Put the haul job up for bid at Uship.com I believe this is now a service of ebay. I have successfully used it in the past myself. See the site for details. 3) Call Dave Erwin 612-709-3150 Dave is a coast-to-coast transporter who provides very competitive rates. I found Dave's contact info through various Hot Rod forums a few years ago (you can Google his name and see multiple recommendations online). I've used Dave before and he charges very reasonable rates - but to provide those rates he transports items on his schedule. Reminder: This car MUST BE PICKED UP ON OR BEFORE DECEMEBR 7th - otherwise I will ask winning bidder to pay transport and storage at another nearby location. On Nov-12-11 at 23:18:50 PST, seller added the following information: OAL/Over-all-length is 16' foot, not 16"inches
