Vehicle Detail

Some lucky bidder is going to get himself one fantastic car. Financial issues are forcing the sale of my beloved ’48 Fleetline Aero. This car is fantastic. If you’re looking for something in dubious shape to chop up and modify, don’t buy it. But if, like me, you appreciate an incredibly original and well preserved classic, this is the one for you. There probably aren’t a dozen cars left in this kind of original condition. This car has only 83,000 original miles. It sports the original 216 6-banger, no smoke, and it starts every time. I just had the carb rebuilt a few months ago. The clutch is great, and the vacuum assisted 3-on-the-tree shifts flawlessly. She sits on 4 nearly new bias ply whitewalls with rare chrome trim rings and original hubcaps. (These are not the cheap repro caps – they weigh several pounds each!) The chrome is excellent, with just a few tiny weak spots on the rear bumper ends and gravel guards. Note all of the extra bumper guards front and rear, including the rare center guard on the rear bumper. The interior is all original. The seats are in excellent condition – nearly perfect. The door panels have a little bit of water staining, as if someone left a window open at some point. The mohair panels tend to show stuff like that. But it only adds to the original charm. The glass is fine and all windows work flawlessly. This one obviously sports the rare and desirable Fulton visor. All the gauges work fine, including the clock (original wind up model), radio, gas gauges and wipers. When was the last time you saw a 63 year old car with an original working clock and radio?? Restoring those two things alone would run you $750. The car has the optional turn signals, and they work too. The paint is probably not original. My best guess is that it was repainted 25 years ago or so in the original maroon color. There is one flaw on the upper side of the left rear fender – kind of looks like a rust bubble under the paint less than the size of a dime, but I doubt it’s rust in a spot like that. It’s likely just something that got under the paint. It doesn’t look like the body was sanded 100% glass smooth when it was painted, so there are a few spots that don’t look really smooth under the paint. And there are a couple of small chips here and there – nothing very noticeable. But it is a VERY presentable paint job and you won't want to re-do it anytime soon. And honestly, I can’t see evidence of rust anywhere on this car. Check the pictures of the undercarriage. You will NOT be making any rust repairs on the body or frame of this car. Many of the pictures in this ad are of my daughter’s wedding in February. (Isn’t she beautiful?) This car has been in several weddings… if I could keep it I’d develop that into a business! But we’re having an unrelated crisis that means I need to let it go. No games on this end – check my feedback. And I expect no games on the buyer’s end as well. Don’t waste my time or yours trying to low-ball me on a car that’s worth $20,000. I’m offering this vehicle to a good home for a very reasonable price. If it doesn’t sell this time around on Ebay, it will sell somewhere else, believe me. Don’t hesitate to contact me with questions. I’ve bought and sold a fair number of classic cars on Ebay, so I know how nervous you will be, especially if you don’t see the car before you bid. So ask me tons of questions and you’ll get straight answers. I’m a man of integrity who values my reputation. If you want to buy an hour of a mechanic’s time and have me take it to a shop for inspection, feel free to ask. I’ve done that on a few purchases and it has made me feel a lot better before committing to buy a car online. I’d suggest Bridgewater Exxon – it’s near my house, inexpensive, and the mechanics there are great guys who know old cars. But it’s your call. I can store it for free indoors for as long as you need me to (within reason) as long as you make payment first. $1,000 deposit within 24 hours on PayPal, the rest payable by certified check within 10 days. Fair enough? Happy bidding!
