Several more items separate the Turin built '93 Allanté from its less powerful predecessors but it is the spectacular condition of this extremely rare example and its 54,737 original miles that together, make this rocket the most coveted Allanté among collectors of this modern day legend. That's because only about 150 cars received this optional color. For 1993, the road sensing suspension was completely redesigned, new generation Bosch ABS and traction control arrived and the fixed vent window went away for a much cleaner look. You won't find a single rip or tear in the beautiful dark blue convertible top. The rich, blue paint doesn't even look eight years old, let alone 18 years. Of course, automotive writers of the time praised the fit and finish of the body; the Allanté is a Pininfarina design with the coachwork and paint done in Turin, Italy. The doors of this car close solid as a bank vault and indicators such as wheels, exterior trim and lenses don't look this new without indoor storage . . . not unusual for the average Allanté buyer. The silver tail lamps glow red with the brakes on and the smooth flanks on this low mileage convertible look just about perfect, even from down here. A dark color like this tends to amplify whatever flaws there are . . . if there were any notable enough to mention. You'd have to be inside an arms length to spot the few tiny chips, scuffs and flaws, most touched up to maintain the beauty you see here. Unimportant Allanté trivia: 1993 was the only year there was no Cadillac shield on the third brake light lens. Of course, this was also the only year you'll find "32 V NORTHSTAR" badges on an Allanté and it came with a stronger transmission, suspension upgrades, and a new ABS/traction control system. After finally getting the Allanté right, makes you wonder why GM pulled the plug. You can see the lack of door dings or body damage from this angle and how much tread remains on the Michelin Sport steel belted radials. Another 1993-only improvement was the exclusion of the previous year's complex light redundancy electronics. This high-index-for-heartache feature was supposed to turn on a nearby light when a bulb failed. What it did for many owners was create a lot of . . . well, heartache. Cadillac cleaned up all that, for a dead-reliable and very powerful 1993 Allanté. Did I say powerful? Indeed it is; stab the throttle in this bad boy and you will instantly understand why Allantés with this engine command such a premium. As luck would have it, we had a 1992 Allanté not long ago and brother, it's like driving two completely different automobiles. Where the old car ran out of breath after about 3 grand, the Northstar in this blue beauty keeps pulling like a locomotive all the way to red line. To put it mildly; this car is fast but it's not just thrilling acceleration that make it better. Remember, new road-sensing suspension, brakes and even a new front spoiler placed the '93 Allanté among the most respected premium convertibles of its day. Car and Driver compared the newly muscled Allanté to a V12 Jag XJS convertible and a Mercedes 300SL and the Allanté came out on top. It was both faster and less expensive. Butter soft leather, 8-way power seats and 4-way power lumbar means you may never want to leave this lovely cabin . . . . . . the good news is; everything works, almost as well as it looks. There it is folks. Is 8.3 miles a day since new low enough mileage for ya? Thought so. The digital dash was a $600 option in 1993 but this car was equipped with the preferred analog cluster. Apparently, the previous owner preferred a digital dash and swapped it out about 2,700 miles ago. The original unit has a single plug in back and we considered putting it back in. We don't know how to make the odometer correct, however so, I'll just take a picture and put it in the back seat.
