Vehicle Detail
If you would like to know more about me and what I do please Google search --- JG Francis, Mercedes Motoring --- This is one of the best 300Ds I have ever encountered. Up until 6 months ago, this car only had one owner. It was picked up at the factory in Germany in 1983 by its first owners- a couple from a small town outside of Dallas, Texas. They drove it around Europe for several weeks before shipping it back to the United States. It is a US spec car. The maintenance this car has received since new goes far beyond what most would ever consider regular. Every last item that ever needed attention, got it. The maintenance booklet shows every stamped service and there is a large file of hard copy records that show how much this car was loved since day one. Besides looking like new, it runs perfect. It drives like new. It shifts perfect. It's fast! There isn't a single item that doesn't function properly. It has 100% original paint and the color combination is amazing- Astral Silver (Mercedes-Benz paint code 735) with Black MB-Tex interior. From the paint to the chrome, the rubber to the glass, etc., the entire exterior is beautiful. There are no noticeable blemishes that need to be disclosed, and almost zero wear on the entire car. It has power windows, power locks, cruise control, factory Becker AM/FM cassette stereo, zebrano wood dash trim, turbo charged motor, etc. The factory spare has never been used. There are no cracks in the dash. There are no cracks in the wood. The interior is just as remarkable as the exterior; from the seats to the garnish moldings, every part has a deep saturation like it has never seen the sun. The car was always garaged. The trunk looks as though it was never used. The undercarriage still has traces of the original cosmoline protective wax undercoating from the factory, as do many other areas of the car. Below is some of the mechanical and cosmetic work that has been done since I acquired the car about 6 months ago (this list is off the top of my head and could easily be much longer). Although this car was incredible to begin with I spent a lot of time and substantial costs getting it to look and drive like it does now. It goes far beyond your typical low mileage diesel. This car is undeniably amazing- New front brake rotorsNew front and rear brake pads Major 30k service where all fluids were flushed and replenished Valve adjustmentNew fuel filters, air filter, transmission filterNew fuel return line hosesNew upper radiator hoseNew top of the line Michelin tiresRefinished factory alloy 14" Bundt wheels in Astral Silver with 3 coats of clearReplaced headlamp bulbsReplaced instrument cluster lightsNew Bosch headlight door housingsNew grill insertsRefinished all wood (i.e. stripped, sanded, stained and 30 coats of clear)New hood insulation padRebuilt factory antennaServiced A/CReplaced cruise control amplifierTouched up paint with factory Astral SilverNew b-pillar feltsNew wind lacingTightened parcel nets on front seat backrestsAdjusted the temperature sensor on the dash to seat flush with the dashboardNew protective floor matsRemoved all exterior components for cleaning (i.e. bumpers, grill, mirrors, headlights, taillights, emblems, belt molding, rocker molding, door handles, cowl vents covers, windshield wipers, wood, door panels, seats, a, b and c pillars, etc.)Cleaned and polished every area of the car, including intense attention to wheel wells, chassis, engine compartment, door jams, behind bumpers, inside headlight buckets, under floor mats, etc., etc. every area of the entire car, literally, has been cleaned.)Intense attention to the engine compartment detail. Removed battery, mister reservoir, air filter housing, etc. Cleaned and polished every square inch. Polished sill plates, door latches, seat hardware, garnish moldings...and on and on...the detail work alone took 6 weeks. I have set the reserve price to reflect all of the above. I'm almost certain this car will not meet my reserve, but perhaps there is someone out there who will truly appreciate and understand the countless hours of love and labor, the fine details and fanatical craftsmanship, the cost to bring this car to this level and why that warrants a premium price. If you have any questions shoot me an email and I'll answer them. I'm also available by phone, but email me first if you would like my number. Please ask any questions you feel that I have not covered so we don't miscommunicate on anything. I have great feedback and would like to keep it that way. Good luck! Oh- one last thing, even though this car looks great in photos it actually presents itself better in person. I would welcome anyone who wants to come take it for a spin. Thanks again. If you would like to know more about me and what I do please Google search --- JG Francis, Mercedes Motoring --- I have been honored by Mercedes-Benz and featured in several documentary films which focused on the quality of my restorations and my lifestyle with these cars. Mercedes-Benz has also recognized my work in mb! by Mercedes-Benz magazine. The films and articles can be seen on Mercedes-Benz TV or my website.
