Vehicle Detail

This is a local pick-up only sale. This car has a 304 V-8 engine with a Carter 2-BBL carburetor, a Torque-Command automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and a heater. The car was a simple “Plain Jane” meaning it had nothing fancy on it like a radio, air conditioner or “Heavy Duty” components. It was originally purchased in early 1972 by the Newark Police Department, Newark, California, most likely from the local AMC dealer. Newark is located in the Oakland Bay area. The car has always been painted white except for prior to my buying it. Some portions of the car were painted black at that time. To the best of my knowledge there were never any lights or markings on this car when it was owned by Newark. There was however a large mounting hole on the right rear fender, which leads me to believe there might have been a mobile radio installed at some point. The covered holes on the roof where put there by the previous owner. I bought the car in 2000 as a pet project but it never got beyond a little here and a little there. I bought it from a private party who got it from a salvage yard. The front doors, front fenders trunk lid, grille, front seats and dash panel are obviously not original. The car was never equipped with air conditioning despite the A/C vents in the front dash panel. As you can see by the pictures the car needs a full restoration. Some of the floor pans had been replaced some time back due to rust. There are numerous rust spots all over the car but these appear to be just at the surface. Other, deeper spots of rust are shown in the pictures. The interior has been completely redone with carpet being used in place of the heavy-duty vinyl flooring. The car does run very well but has a minor fuel leak between the fill neck and tank. The front brakes were changed from drum to disc using parts from a donor Matador. It originally had 14-inch steel wheels that I changed out with 15-inch Dodge wheels, including the spare. I had them sandblasted and repainted white and installed solid valve stems. All five tires were replaced with new Douglas All Weather Mud and Snow radials; size P215/70-R15. And, the exhaust was replaced, converted into duals with new mufflers added. The grill also came from the donor car. The previous owner got rid of the original grill. I also took the anti-sway bar from the donor and installed it to the rear of the Matador. This car is being sold as is. What you see in the pictures is what you get, except for the straw hat. You’ll have to get your own! I’ll also include all of the extras I have including the original bench seat (without headrest), trim, emblems, hood and trunk lid. There is no battery in the car. The car is NOT currently registered so arrangements will need to be made to move the car. The buyer will be responsible for making arrangements to move, and/or ship the car.
