Vehicle Detail

1980 SUZUKI GS450 This vintage bike is in remarkably good shape for it's years. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say it's a 7. Nothings is cracked or broken, just some scuffs here and there from possible falls or a slow speed crash. I'll notate later the areas of scuffing. For now I'll take you on a written walk around of this bike. Starting at the front, the headlamp and reflectors are all in great shape. No cracks or scuffs. There is some scuffing on the balls of the levers. Mirrors are in great shape with minimal pitting on the stalks. The chrome on the front fender is straight and without pits. A grommet is missing for the brake line. Walking to the left I see some scuffing on the oil filter case, on top which is odd. There is scuffing on the LH foot peg and brake pedal, also scuffing on the lower exhaust pipes. I suspect a slow speed crash on this side. The clutch release is a bit stiff and can catch you off guard if you let it out too quick. The side panels and gas tank are in great shape pinstripe tape is still good. . Nice and shiny, clean inside the fuel tank as well, no rust. The fuel valve doesn't turn, but can be rebuilt. For now you just don't have reserve. The seat has a few cracks that have been filled with clear epoxy. 3 are about 1 inch long, and 2 are about 1/4 inch. For the most part the seat is very clean with no dry rot or cracking on the edges. The canvas bags will go with the bike. It gives it a very dated look. The wheels are good with no pitting. The rear tire probably needs to be replaced as the wear indicator is almost showing. Front tire is fine. Neither tire has dry rot or cracking. Rear chrome fender is also clean with no pitting. Walking to the rear we see the tail lamp is intact, with two bulbs inside for greater visability. All lights work and blink. There is a scuff on the RH foot peg also and the rubber is scuffed some. No other scuffs to this side. The dash is a combo speedometer and tach. It has a working odometer and also a shift indicator. It is a six speed, and shifts easily except for the heavy clutch release lever. Once you find the friction zone you get used to the feel quickly. The bike itself always starts. It has a slight fowling problem which I suspect is one of the jets in the carb. Upon inspection one bowl had fuel and the other much less. Didn't dig further into this, as I haven't done more then tear open a carb, but never messed with the jets. It will run and can maintain highway speeds, though some surging will be felt and exhaust smells rich. Some goodies that will be included are an owners manual, two sets of keys, battery charger leads, new tinted bug shield, and the canvas saddle bags as mention previously. Need to sell before winter in that I don't have room to store 4 bikes. I bought it for a friend when is 1983 Suzuki Tempter was having starting issues and still wanted to ride while we searched for parts. He remarks the bike has lots of power and is very reliable. My friend is a big guy at 6 foot and 250 pounds and the bike fits him well. I am 5'5" and don't feel flat footed enough with it. Still the bike is very light and nimble, a fun first ride or a collectable.
