Vehicle Detail
This is a 1959 GMC 1 - Ton Panel van. It is a "Stovebolt" Classic. The van had the original 265 In-Line Six Engine in it which was running at the time I got it. This Engine was the same one that later became the Blue Flame Engine used in the 1957 Corvette (not 100% sure on year). The 265 In-Line six engine was replaced by a freshly rebuilt 283 Small Block V8, including a new shifter, new custom made drive shaft, new cross member and even a brand new custom built dual exhaust system. This was the start of a restoration project but unfortunately, due to the end of a relationship I no longer have a place to keep working on the car and need to sell it to someone who will appreciate it and be able to restore it. Bottom line is the ex wanted it gone, so I am left with no options for it. The truck needs a new wiring harness and cable for the alternator. I have a spare 12v alternator for it. You can acquire a new harness for $180 from EZ Wiring or any other custom shops out there. The van needs things like a new windshield, new locks for the doors, new windows and rear windows for the rear barn doors. Of course, it also needs restorative bodywork done to it - however, the body is pretty solid with no structurally compromised areas. Maybe some new door skins would be nice too, depending on what level of restoration you want to do. I just purchased a brand new set of hinges for it and they will come with the truck. There is rust on the van as to be expected... it was stored for about 15 years prior to me acquiring it. While the truck starts and can drive or be moved, I wouldn't suggest this as the brakes need to be worked on - possibly repaired. I kept the original Stovebolt In-Line 6 engine and it is sitting in the back of the van as well. The engine comes with the van. The van had been out of DMV's system for so long (About 15+ Years) and so a new title was required for it. I have the temporary permit for it already and a new title and VIN number were issued for the van. However the van still needs to get a Gross Weight Certificate. The van is already verified and it is also Smog exempt. If you get the truck, you might end up being listed as the first owner which is kinda cool. Registration fees are actually paid up till April of 2012 on this van. I was finally able to go to the ex's place and remove the van, it is currently located in San Mateo where a body shop is reviewing it. I am still not in a position to store this van and I think it would be better off with someone who has the time and space to restore this classic. While all offers will be considered, I have seen other classics in worse condition sold for more. This might be your chance to acquire a nice project that can double as a handy work van. I really, really need this thing gone. Please note I put in 200,000 miles as mileage was required. However, I am unable to confirm the actual mileage on the truck at this point. I really don't have much time left to keep auctioning this van. If it does not sell on this auction, I will probably have to send it to a scrap yard which will be a terrible shame. This truck / van deserves to be restored and saved. There are not that many Stovebolt Panel Vans left out there. I took some newer pictures as of September 30th, 2011. I pulled the hood out of the back and placed it on the van. The Blue tarp was put under the hood to prevent any moisture getting on or into the engine. I was asked several times to consider reducing the price to kick start the auction on this truck. I have reduced it to a much lower starting price with NO RESERVE in a final bid to give someone a chance to acquire this vehicle. REDUCED PRICE! I NEED THIS GONE!
