Vehicle Detail
1986 PONTIAC TRANS-AM TV CAR !! Up for auction is a truly unique vehicle : 1986 Pontiac Trans-AM FORCE-III TV Car !!! * With less than 3400 Original Miles! * Description : Built by legendary car creator/designer George Barris, this car was made for an 80's TV series called "Force-III". This is the 'hero' car from that show! A pilot & first episode was filmed, but the show never got off the ground... as such, this car didn't ever see much use. It's in fantastic condition, with less than 3400 original miles!!! This unique 'Vehicle of Justice' is completely tricked out with an array 'weapons' & custom features. Base Vehicle Features : The base car is a 1986 Pontiac Trans-Am. Stock 305 4bbl V8 engine, Automatic transmission w/overdrive, 4-wheel disc brakes, Air- Conditioning, Tilt-Steering, Factory AM/FM Stereo cassette player, Power Steering/Power brakes, Goodyear Eagle RH P235 60/R15 tires all around (& all in like-new condition!), mounted on 4 like-new CenterLine rims (fantastic shine, no curb rash, pitting, etc) Custom Features : In the TV show, this car was driven by a character code-named 'Wizard' ..he was a tech genius who equipped his car with a wide array of weapons & gadgets. The various 'weapons' and such are controlled by a series of switches on the center console. They include : Front mounted 'machine guns' .. hidden behind the directional lights. These guns pop-out from behind the front directional lights (and retract back behind them) with the flick of a switch. Of course, these guns don't actually shoot anything .. but they do have hose connections on them so they could be connected to propane (often used on TV/Movies for fake gunfire effect) or to compressed air to launch out a small projectile. Rear mounted missile launchers .. hidden behind the tail-light lenses. Each tail light has 3 small 'missile' like projectiles in them .. they're hidden by the tail light lenses. Flip a switch & the motorized rear tail light lenses lift up! Door mounted missiles ! 4 large 'missiles' mounted in the driver & passenger doors! The motorized outer door skins open like wings to reveal the hidden missiles! Definitely one of the coolest features of this car! 'Wings' open/close via center-console mounted switch. Motorized rear hatch! The rear hatch on the car is completely motorized & opens/closes via one of the center console switches. Hidden in the hatch area is a huge prop M134A Mini-Gun & 4-tube Rocket Launcher!! Both are mounted on stands that individually raise/lower via center console switches! The M134A Mini-Gun is a $3000 collectible prop gun made by "Toy-Tec". The gun barrel spins up when you pull the trigger on the joystick (in the drivers compartment). (Note: Gun is battery powered .. uses a rechargable RC-car type battery. Battery needs replacement.) Also tucked away in the trunk is a 3-outlet 700Watt 12v/110 Volt AC inverter & second car battery. (Car has dual batteries to help power all the accessories.) Rotating front license plate! Though not motorized, the front plate can be flipped to hide one plate & show another! Hood-scoop mounted plane launcher! This feature has never worked very well, so I don't really use it .. but, the hood-scoop is also motorized & tilts back to show a small launch-pad. In the show, the hero had a drone-plane hidden under the scoop to use for observation. He would 'steer' the plane with the retractable joystick. Everything is in place & connected for the scoop functions, but I have the scoop tied down so it doesn't open. It just never worked reliably, so I leave it down. Car also has a functional 'all-in-one' type CB-radio w/hidden antenna. Passenger side has a mock-up weapons panel that lights up. All the various motorized guns/etc. can be locked/unlocked from use via a hidden safety key. Custom Vehicle Mods : Besides the 'weapons', this car has a number of other modifications including .. Reinforced T-Top bar, full roll-bar, front TV-style tow-bar (used for filming when you need a real on-the-road driving scene), and a lot of custom steel work (like the removable panels behind the driver/passenger & the rear hatch section where the M134A is mounted). There are no side windows on this car, as the power motors that raised/lowered them are now used to raise/lower the door 'wings'. (If you really needed/wanted windows for it, it'd be easy to make a couple of removable ones out of lexan or plexiglass.) The car does have custom T-Tops designed specifically for use on this car. Running/Driving Condition etc.. : The good stuff.. This car runs, drives, starts, stops, etc.. like new! Car needs absolutely nothing. Runs / shifts / drives perfect. Doesn't leak (and never has leaked) anything! Under 3400 original miles!! This car still has the factory hoses & belts on it .. & they're in great shape. Included with the car is also an additional complete set of brand-new belts. Both the front & rear batteries are brand-new (less than 4 months old). New wipers blades. Vehicle is currently NY State inspected .. passed inspection July 2011. Stuff that needs work .. A mouse (or some such small critter) got under the hood at some point, & ate through a couple of exposed wires. I fixed most everything, but there are still a couple wires to trace-out / patch to make everything perfect. The headlight motors do work, & do raise/lower the headlights when power is applied to them .. but the power wire to them must have been cut/chewed through, as they don't raise/lower with the switch. The headlight switch does turn on the fog lights & the headlights .. but the headlights currently need to be raised/lowered via the hand knobs. The temperature gauge has power going to it, but the wire from the temp sensor to the gauge is cut somewhere & needs to be patched for the temp gauge to work. A/C works, but needs a charge. (I doubt it's ever even been used.) Other than those couple things, everything on the car is fully functional & working great! This car is in hop-in-and-drive-away condition .. drive it anywhere.. it has no problems/quirks/whatever at all! Body / Paint / Etc. Condition : Body is in great shape .. absolutely no rust at all. Underside of the car looks fantastic too! (This car has always been stored indoors.) The paint has been touched up in spots .. so it isn't 'perfect' .. but it still looks great. Drivers seat has a couple small rips on the cushion. Also Included : As mentioned above, the car includes a complete set of brand-new belts. The original/current ones are great & don't need to be changed.. but the spare set is included just the same. Also included is the original promotional material for the show! An original Force-III folder & three pages of info outline the shows concept, producer info, merchandising related info, etc. A real rare item to find with any show car! The car also still has the original 'Barris Kustoms' badges on it! The badges are even shown in the promotional pics in the Force-III binder!
