Vehicle Detail
I'm selling this truck for my dad, but feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I have done most of the maintenance and repairs on it over the years. This is probably the most stripped down truck you could buy from Chevrolet in 1966. There is only 1 uncovered sunvisor for the driver side and a factory radio delete plate. It does have manual gauges instead of dummy lights though. It is probably one of the easiest vehicles to work on that I know of and it's tougher than a $2.00 steak. All of the gauges and switches work, but I don't think the cigar lighter works. I can fix it if you can't go without your stogies while cruising. Mechanically it is pretty sound. The 250 cid straight 6 is out of my great grandfather's 1969 Nova, but I'm pretty sure everything else on the truck is original. About 5 years ago I had to put a new cylinder head on it as the exhaust seats were shot because of running unleaded gas. It has a modern head on it now with hardened seats. At the same time I rebuilt the carburator, resealed the motor, installed a new oil pump and did a full tune up. In that time my dad has only put 10,000 miles on the motor and it still runs like a top. It's hard to say how many miles are on the lower end of the engine though. It usually averages about 16-18 miles to the gallon on the highway cruising at 55 mph. It has the top loader 4spd with granny low that shifts and clutches as good as new. The only other repairs that I've done recently other than the usual maintenance is replace the front brake soft hoses and a couple of u-joints. I inspected the brakes when I replaced the brake hoses and the brake shoes still looked good. Yes, I greased the front wheel bearings while I was in there. The only other repairs needed that I can see is that it needs a new wiper post and arm on the passenger's side and the upper bearing in the steering column needs to be greased, as it squeeks when you turn it. For being manual steering is turns fairly easily compared to some of these trucks I've driven. Yes, it has the usual rust in the rockers, lower door outer panels, sides of the floor and the RT front fender. I recently MIG welded in a drivers side lower fender section with a brand new patch panel, as it had broken free from the lower mount. Yes, that is the original oak bed. It's seems pretty solid other than the hole toward the tailgate area. No, the white walls are NOT painted, but they have been peeled. Don't worry, you can hit all the curbs you want without having to repaint them or blowing out a sidewall. No, it does not have lowering knuckles in the front and yes, the front coils have been cut to lower it. Yes, it rides rough compared to stock. The rear coil springs have NOT been cut however. They are out of a 70's vintage chevelle station wagon. I have not towed with it since it has been lowered, but I assume that either some overload springs or air bags / shocks would be a plus. If you are wanting to put it back to stock height, I do have the original rear coil springs, however, only one set of rear springs come with the truck. No, I do not have stock height coil springs for the front. I was going to add some pinstriping and other custom touches like a lampshade shift knob, fuzzy dice, shag carpeting.. etc, etc.. but I kind of like how WT utility it still looks. If you are interested in customizing it, but don't know how or don't have the time, I'd be happy to help for an additional fee. Please don't ask me if it would make the drive from Colorado to Bum F!!k Tennessee. I wouldn't even make that guarantee on a new car, however I wouldn't be afraid to. We may be interested in possible trades too. Feel free to ask any questions you have, but please don't wait till the final 10 minutes of the auction to do so, especially if you want more pictures.
