If you’re ready to bid, great! Please keep in mind a few rules regarding bidding, which follow. 2.2. A Bid Is A Legally Binding Contract. Your bid constitutes a legally binding contract to purchase this vehicle. Please do not bid if you do not intend to, or are not financially able to, complete the purchase of the vehicle. Please have your financial arrangements in place prior to bidding. 2.3. I Don’t Allow Bidders With Negative Feedback. I do not allow bidding from bidders with negative feedback. New bidders with zero feedback should contact me prior to bidding. I reserve the right to obtain and verify the registered information of all users who bid on this auction, and to cancel any and all bids at my discretion. 2.4. I May End An Auction Early. I am a licensed Florida automobile dealer, and some of my vehicles listed on ebay are concurrently offered for sale locally. Call me now if you would like to make an offer. 3. Completing the Transaction 3.1. Contact Me. If you are the winning bidder, congratulations! You must contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction to make arrangements for the completion of the transaction. My office phone number is 239.738.4440. 3.2. Pay a Deposit. You must pay a non-refundable $500.00 deposit within 24 hours after the end of the auction to secure the vehicle. Please see Section 3.4, below, for payment methods. 3.3. Pay the Balance Due. You must pay the remaining balance due (plus applicable fees and taxes – please see 3.5, below) within 7 days after the end of the auction. 3.4. Payment Methods. I accept cash in person (under $10,000 only), cashier’s checks, wire transfers, or commercial 3rd-party financing. I also accept PayPal for the payment of deposits only. All funds must be in US dollars. 3.5. Fees and Taxes. 3.5.1. Dealer Fee. I charge a $250 dealer fee, which will be added to all transactions. 3.5.2. Sales Tax, Registration & Title Fees. 3.5.2.1. Florida Buyers. You must pay Florida's 6% sales tax plus any local option taxes applicable in your county, and I am required to collect it at the time of the sale. You are also responsible for the cost of Florida title, tag and registration fees, which I collect an estimate of at the time of sale. If the actual cost of title and registration is less than the estimate, I will refund you the difference; if the actual cost is more that the estimate, you will be required to pay the difference. I do not make any money on tax, tag, registration and title fees I collect. 3.5.2.2. Out-of-State Buyers. If you take delivery of the vehicle at my location, I am required to collect all or a portion of the sales tax applicable to motor vehicle sales in your state, i.e., I am required to collect either (i) the actual rate applicable in your state, or (ii) 6%, whichever is less. Generally, you will receive a credit in your state for sales tax collected here (Note: although the vast majority of states have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Florida, a few do not; please check with your local tag agency.) If your state’s sales tax rate on motor vehicles is greater than 6%, I am required to collect 6% and you will be responsible for paying the difference in your state. If you have the vehicle shipped and take delivery of it outside of Florida, I do not collect sales tax. In that case, you will be responsible for paying the sales tax applicable in your state directly. In any event, you will be responsible for handling the titling and registration of the vehicle in your state and for paying all associated fees and costs. 3.6. Exchange Documents and Signatures. There are, unfortunately, paperwork requirements for completing the transaction, which may vary depending on whether you are from out-of-state or not. These will be discussed when you contact me initially. 3.7. If You Fail to Pay or Communicate with Me. I expect the transaction to go smoothly. However, if you fail to (i) make contact with me, (ii) pay the deposit, (iii) provide me with required signatures/documents, or (iv) pay the remaining balance (including applicable fees, taxes, and charges), within the timeframes set forth herein, I reserve the right to keep your deposit and re-list the vehicle or otherwise sell it as I see fit, without notice, in my sole discretion. I also reserve the right to report the issue to eBay in my sole discretion. 4. Take Delivery of Your New Vehicle 4.1. Completed Transaction. Your vehicle will be available for pick up or shipping once full payment is received and all other paperwork requirements of the transaction are completed. 4.2. Pick Up. Here’s a unique 1980 Mercedes-Benz 240D Diesel set up to run on diesel fuel or vegetable oil. This is a NO RESERVE auction, so this car will be sold to the highest bidder. My philosophy is to give as thorough, accurate and frank a description of both the good and bad points as possible, and to show everything in pictures. I have included almost 100 pictures of this car. If I have missed anything in pictures or in the description, or if anything is unclear, please ask before bidding. I will happily answer any questions. Also, I will post questions that I am asked throughout the course of this listing, and my corresponding answers...the Q&As appear near the very bottom of the listing for some reason, so scroll all the way down to check them out.

The exterior of the car looks generally good, though it needs some work to be perfect. The sky blue paint is in overall good condition, with some blemishes shown in the pictures. The car does unfortunately suffer from some rust, as you can see in the pictures, most significantly along the bottoms of the driver's side panels and fenderwell, on the driver's side rear quarter, and on the lower lip of the trunklid. Check out the photos for the full picture. Notwithstanding those issues, this is still a good looking car, and it looks classic in the sky blue in my opinion.
The interior of the car is also in over all good condition, needing a little attention to be perfect. The tan MB Tex upholstery is in very good shape, as are the door panels. This car is not equipped with a front center armrest. The dashboard has some small cracks in it (pictured) but is overall quite good. The wood trim is glossy and nice, and there is a wood shifter knob. The worst aspect of the interior is the carpets, particularly on the passenger side - front and rear - which are missing or in poor condition. I think there may be a water leak. In any event, as you can see from the pictures, the passenger side carpets are a weak point in the interior. The A/C works. This car has roll-up windows, which are desirable on an older car in my opinion. The power sunroof does not work. I also observed the main tank fuel gauge behaving erratically on occasion, though the other instruments work properly and are in good shape. There is an aftermarket stereo with CD player. The car comes with owners manuals and three keys.
This car has Mercedes’s very economical and extremely durable 2.4 liter four cylinder diesel engine. The engine fires up and runs great, and the automatic transmission shifts well. The 240D is no hot rod, but it is very fuel efficient. This car drives well. It has a matching set of 4 relatively new looking tires. However, there is definitely some play in the steering, which is very common to the W123 cars, and some creaking and play in the suspension. All things considered, though, this car drives very well for a car of its age. This car predates Autocheck's records; however, I believe the car was sold new at Lokey Mercedes in Clearwater, FL and has been there most or all of its life. Also, the car's factory service book indicates that the speedo/odometer was replaced in 1981 at 16,xxx miles (I forget the exact number). There's an entry as well as an official Mercedes-Benz sticker in the book. So from the evidence available, the actual mileage is probably 16,xxx miles higher than the odometer reads now, or approximately 128,000.
This car is equipped with a conversion kit manufactured by Greasecar allowing it to run on straight vegetable oil (SVO) or even filtered used vegetable oil commonly referred to as WVO for "waste vegetable oil." I'm just going to refer to WVO hereafter because it is what most people use, but of course you can run on SVO as well. If you're reading this listing, you probably already know how the WVO conversions work. For those who aren't familiar, the conversion includes a second tank mounted in the trunk for the WVO, as well as a separate WVO filter and valves for switching between WVO and diesel fuel from the car's main tank. This car has what I believe is Greasecar's optional larger capacity tank...see the pictures. The WVO tank, filter and fuel lines are heated by hot coolant from the radiator. It is thought that vegetable oil performs most like diesel fuel when it is heated to thin it out. You start the car up on diesel fuel, and when the car gets up to temp the coolant from the radiator heats the WVO and you can then flip a toggle switch mounted inside the car and switch over to run on WVO whenever you like. You can switch back to run on diesel whenever you like as well. There is a "purge" function to flush the engine with diesel fuel. You want to purge before switching back to running on diesel fuel or before you shut the car off so you are ready to start up on diesel fuel the next time.
I bought this car with the kit already installed. I have driven the car on both diesel and WVO. The conversion works great. It switches seamlessly between diesel and WVO, and there's no noticeable difference in engine performance. The only way you know you're driving on WVO is the lit red light on the toggle switch. And the smell coming out the exhaust pipe. There is a separate fuel gauge showing the WVO tank level. I tested the system in each of the diesel, WVO, and purge modes by disconnecting lines to check for fuel flow to/from the right places. All appeared to be working properly. If you're looking for a WVO car that is already set up and working properly, this car is ready to give you the greasy miles you desire.

3.4. Payment Methods. I accept cash in person (under $10,000 only), cashier’s checks, wire transfers, or commercial 3rd-party financing. I also accept PayPal for the payment of deposits only. All funds must be in US dollars.
3.5. Fees and Taxes.
3.5.1. Dealer Fee. I charge a $250 dealer fee, which will be added to all transactions.
3.5.2. Sales Tax, Registration & Title Fees.
3.5.2.1. Florida Buyers. You must pay Florida's 6% sales tax plus any local option taxes applicable in your county, and I am required to collect it at the time of the sale. You are also responsible for the cost of Florida title, tag and registration fees, which I collect an estimate of at the time of sale. If the actual cost of title and registration is less than the estimate, I will refund you the difference; if the actual cost is more that the estimate, you will be required to pay the difference. I do not make any money on tax, tag, registration and title fees I collect.
3.5.2.2. Out-of-State Buyers. If you take delivery of the vehicle at my location, I am required to collect all or a portion of the sales tax applicable to motor vehicle sales in your state, i.e., I am required to collect either (i) the actual rate applicable in your state, or (ii) 6%, whichever is less. Generally, you will receive a credit in your state for sales tax collected here (Note: although the vast majority of states have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Florida, a few do not; please check with your local tag agency.) If your state’s sales tax rate on motor vehicles is greater than 6%, I am required to collect 6% and you will be responsible for paying the difference in your state. If you have the vehicle shipped and take delivery of it outside of Florida, I do not collect sales tax. In that case, you will be responsible for paying the sales tax applicable in your state directly. In any event, you will be responsible for handling the titling and registration of the vehicle in your state and for paying all associated fees and costs.
3.6. Exchange Documents and Signatures. There are, unfortunately, paperwork requirements for completing the transaction, which may vary depending on whether you are from out-of-state or not. These will be discussed when you contact me initially.
3.7. If You Fail to Pay or Communicate with Me. I expect the transaction to go smoothly. However, if you fail to (i) make contact with me, (ii) pay the deposit, (iii) provide me with required signatures/documents, or (iv) pay the remaining balance (including applicable fees, taxes, and charges), within the timeframes set forth herein, I reserve the right to keep your deposit and re-list the vehicle or otherwise sell it as I see fit, without notice, in my sole discretion. I also reserve the right to report the issue to eBay in my sole discretion.
4. Take Delivery of Your New Vehicle
4.1. Completed Transaction. Your vehicle will be available for pick up or shipping once full payment is received and all other paperwork requirements of the transaction are completed.
4.2. Pick Up. I am located at 2645 NE 9th Ave in Cape Coral, Florida. I am easily accessible from US 41 and from Interstate 75. The nearest airport is Southwest Florida Int’l Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. Please contact me to make arrangements if you are planning to pick the vehicle up. I can arrange to meet you at RSW and bring you to my location.
4.3. Shipping. I will happily assist you in finding a shipping company. However, you will be responsible for all arrangements and all costs of shipping. I assume no responsibility for damage to the vehicle incurred after it leaves my premises.
This auction is a legally binding contract to buy this vehicle. All vehicles are sold as-is unless otherwise specified. I have done my best to accurately describe this vehicle. It is up to the buyer to come see and further inspect the car before the end of the auction.-->
