On April 17, 1964 Ford Motor Co. launched the Mustang as a 64-1/2 model and a legend was born. Few cars have inspired the same passion as Ford's original pony car. Wade's Garage is pleased to offer one of these 1st issue Mustangs in the very rare and sought after trim of convertible with a 289 V8. Of the 97,705 Mustangs built in that enormously successful introduction run, only 28,833 were convertibles. One can only guess how many survive. We acquired this vehicle as a project and completely went through it to assure driveability and safety and now it can be driven anywhere. The engine starts right up and runs very strong. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The vehicle tracks and stops straight. Radial tires have been fitted for better handling and comfort. This Mustang is a true driver with no mechanical concerns whatsoever. The brake system has been totally renewed with new brake lines, drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders. The exhaust is new and sounds terrific with dual pipes. The fuel tank is new as well. The almost new Goodyear Eagle radial tires are mounted on Cragar Chrome wheels. This Mustang VIN decodes as a 4 Bbl model but it is currently set up with a 2 Bbl Carb. The engine has been recently tuned and has a new wiring harness. The starter motor and battery are both new as well. The body is solid throughout with new rear quarters and trunk floor. We have purchased all new chrome trim where needed. The items that have not already been replaced are in the process of being changed out. We have new exterior door handles, interior panels and window cranks. Also being installed is a new headlight switch and wiper arms. The interior looks exceptional with black vinyl seats. The convertible top and it's boot cover are new. Cosmetically the paint is not great and there needs to be some adjustment done with the doors and hood etc. to improve it's looks but it's ready to drive and enjoy right now. Mechanically our expert technicians have done everything to make this vehicle an exceptional daily driver. To take it to the level of show car is more than we are prepared to do at this time due to other projects but some Mustang enthusiast out there can pick up this rare jewel at a reasonable price to pursue that goal. The odometer shows only 52922 miles but the exact mileage is unknown and exempt on a vehicle of this age. In fairness to all bidders we do not disclose the reserve but it is well below market value for a 1st run Mustang Convertible with a 289 V8.
