Vehicle Detail
1972 Honda AZ600. 2 cylinder 600cc air cooled microcar. NO RESERVE! This is an excellent Rust-Free Survivor Car from Arizona. I am the third owner. Sold new in Tucson, Arizona and stayed in Tucson Arizona up until the point I bought it 4 years ago. I garaged it in Cleveland, Ohio and recently moved to Chicago, where it is also garaged. Even original owners manual, spare, jack and Honda tool kit. Excellent rust free driver ; survivor, but not restored and not concours show quality. More of a fun car you can drive enjoy and take to your local cruise in. These Honda's are unique in the microcar world, as a car you can really drive every day and drive on the freeway. Runs and Drives great, recent tune up by Mike O'Connor's Honda 600 shop in North Carolina. Pros are totally rust free Arizona body, and possibly original paint (but overspray that can be found on the leaf springs makes that a bit unlikely), with good glass, extremely straight body panels, except one dented spot on drivers side door, and missing no parts and a very strong running driving car that you can enjoy right now. Very nice chrome, drivers and passenger seats reupolhstered (not original fabric pattern) but nice. Cons are dried out, cracked weatherstripping from the Arizona sun, worn out carpets and several cracks in the dash. Also on the cons side are rips in the headliner, also headliner is relatively dirty (white headliner). Questions? Totally rust free floors, door sills, rear quarters and everywhere else. Amazingly dry solid Arizona metal. These cars rusted out easily in the midwest and east because they were sold new without undercoating and the sheetmetal is pretty thin gauge. However, this one has never seen salt and survived in amazing condition. Please note that door weatherstriping and hatch weatherstriping will have the be replaced because all current weatherstripping is crumbling away in tatters. The leading edge of the drivers door has a number of shallow dents in it, please see pics. I have two beautiful rust free Arizona doors (drivers and passenger) that come with the car, and are undetented. But these are factory orange, not blue. Rear hatch has been reinforced with an extra metal strip at the top edge on the outside, please see pics, as that is not original, I don't think. It was done long ago to prevent metal cracking. I think the hatches on these cars are a weak point. Paint - Either original or a very old repaint. When I got the car, the paint was very cloudy from the Arizona sun but 8 hours with Meguirs rubbing compound brought it back to the shinyness that you can see in the pictures, but this is not show quality paint. This is driver quality paint. Very nice but you can expect to see 40 years of stone chips etc. The best plan to study all the pics, and call with questions. The sun actually burnt through the paint on 2 lines on the roof down to the primer, which you can see in the pics. There are 290 pics at the link below Glass - All glass is uncracked and intact. One small stonechip on the passengers side of the windshield Engine and Transmission -600 cc aircooled engine Runs and Drives very well, starts easily with the choke on, run it with the choke until it warms up and then push in the choke and continue to drive normally. This is a 600 cc aircooled engine so like a motorcycle you need to use the choke to have it idle when it's cold. I drove it on a 300 mile trip from Cleveland to Columbus and back in one day with no problems. On the way down I drove interstates and got 52 mpg, and on the way back drove 2 lane roads got 46 mpg. This car can go 70 mph, but is pulling a lot of revs at that speed so better to cruise at 60 to take it easy on the engine. Engine will drop spots of oil on your garage floor, but not the degree that I ever add oil between oil changes. Engine is undetailed, original, I don't think has even been rebuilt. Transmission is 4 speed manual, works well. Brakes - Works well, manual brakes, no power assist. I think Mike O' Connor put new pads on all 4 corners this spring. Brake line routing out of engine bay is not original (see pics) Chrome - Nice, original, but not show quality. No pitted in any areas. Bumpers are very nice, other areas more dull, but not burnt through. Lights - All lights work, except overhead interior light. Drivers side rear brake light lens does have a small hole in the lens. Signals and 4 ways work, but turn signals are not self cancelling in this car. Interior - All gauges work, but tach is intermitant sometimes. Gas gauge also seems internimetent, I don't drive the car enough to know if it's really working. It does spring to life when you start the car. Dash has cracks on top. Comes with extra uncracked dash, please see pics of cracked dash in car. Heater and Defrost work. Rear seat is out of the car. Rear seat is very dirty but intact and original. Front seats have been reumpolstered. Black vinyl backs and black cloth fronts, but the cloth is not original Honda pattern, but is nice and subtle. Radio is original and does not work. Electrical - Seems very original and reliable. Never had any problems here. Tires - Previous owner told me they were new, excellent tread, but some dry cracking between the treads. Sidewall on the spare tire is split. More Pictures - I have bought many cars sight unseen and I know I like to see a lot of pictures so there are 290 pictures of this car posted at . If you would like more photos of a specific area, please give me a call, and I'll take photos of the area you are interested in seeing. http://www.photobucket.com/z600 Overall a very very solid rust free driver that you can enjoy right now. Never been messed with, very original, even original manual and tool kit, wrenches and jack. You will not find a more rust free unrestored example. Questions? Call Ian @ 330.607.2693 Thanks!
