A version of the car was produced in Brazil under the names Galaxie 500, LTD and Landau from 1968 to 1982. As often is the case with American cars, the model names shifted around from year to year, but the Galaxie was always Ford's full-size car. In the late 1960s, the low trim Fords would be the Ford Custom 500, while the high-end model would be the XL and LTD, but the Galaxie was normally the high end counterpart to the Chevrolet Impala. Some of the Galaxies were high output, high-performance racing specification machines, a larger forebear to the muscle car era.Source: Wikipedia Body: Galaxie 500 XLIn 1967, the 7 Liter model no longer carried the Galaxie name; it was to be the last year of its being separately identified. Little else changed except for trim and the styling; the same engine range, from a 240 (3.9 L) six-cylinder to the 428 (7.0 L) V8. Modifications to the styling included adding a major bend in the center of the grille, and making the model less "boxy" than the 1966 model. The XL model no longer carried the "Galaxie 500" designation.Engine: 8 Cyl. 428 CIDThe Ford 427 was a legendary race and performance engine, but it was simply impractical to manufacture economically for street use; it required tighter tolerances during manufacture than Ford's regular engine plants could deliver. In addition, it was not really suited to driving all the accessories, such as air conditioning, power steering etc. that was required for a regular production series powerplant. Therefore, Ford went back to the drawing board to create another performance engine with fundamentally the same displacement (7.0 litres) but smarter, with no requirements to withstand the punishing treatment given to race engines.High Performance 428 CID FE engines were fitted to Galaxies (badged simply as '7 Litre') Also, Thunderbirds in the 1966 and 1967 model years. Description: The Good. Car has been in dry storage since 1994. Last registered in the State of Texas in 1993. Car has a Clear and Current Texas Title. Body: Overall solid condition, rokers and door striker and hing posts are in excellent shape and the doors open and close/click shut nicely. The floors pans are solid and have their original metal and hold thier shape. Same for the trunk pan, it appears to be solid and is all there.Fender are solid and in great shape w/ no signs of rust. Both quarter panels look good top to bottom, front to back...except for an area in the lower portion of the drivers side rear, just in back of the wheel well. This rust about the size of a short "paint mixing stick" 1" wide X 8" inches long and it runs along the bottom of this panel, you can feel it if you put your hand inside the trunk and in the lower left 1/4 well. As far as I can find this the only real rust or cancer on the entire car. Frame: Excellent, appears to be very solid, in clean, dry and straight condition w/ no signs of rust or damage.Interior: Original w/ normal wear and tear. Has several crackes in the dash as well as the front seat. Carpet, Door and Quarter Panels appear to be in "fair" to "good" condition. Windows and Glass: In "excellent" condition w/ very little or no pitting at all. Window wings and rubber are also in great condition and operate very smooth and with ease. Both the door windows and rear quarter windows roll up and down with ease. Window chrome is in excellent shape. Winshield and windshield chrome are in excellent condition. Engine: Start quickly and runs strong, has a deep growl that makes you feel/sence the power by just standing next to the car. Idels fine, has good RPM range and can easly bust the rear wheels loose. The Bad: Bumpers are a bit dull and have several dings and even a small dent or two. Good cores that can be easly re-chromed. The transmission has a front seal leak. No convertible top fabric, trunk trim needs to be straightend. 76BGalaxie 500/XL 2-door convertible, bucket seats 4Silver Frost (medium silver metallic) 84medium emberglo "Crinkle" vinyl and dark emberglo "Rosette" pattern vinyl 63C, 63D, 76B, 76D. 21 JDate Code 21st of September 1967 53Axel 6UTransmission This car is one of only 195 Galaxy XL Convertibles equipped with the 428 Big Block and Automatic Transmission.Only 9 of these 428 BB Convertible cars with the color code 4 (Silver Frost)and even less w/ AC etc. We are pleased to present this 1967 Ford Galaxy 500 XL Convertible Q code 428 factory air car for sale.
