Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1974 Honda CB 450. I got this bike for use as a commuter, however I'm retired and don't commute now. As seen in the pictures, it is a fair to good looking bike. It is all original parts and equipment except for the mufflers, which are in great shape, and the seat. I recovered the seat last year with an after-market cover (couldn't find a Honda NOS one). There are some spots of rust on the wheel rims, nothing that couldn't be buffed out. There is some rust on both mirror stalks and on the right front turn signal post. The seat lock and the fuel tank lock are opened with a straight slot screwdriver. Keys won't work in them, but it doesn't affect their operation, they both still lock. Was that way when I got the bike. It didn't bother me since the bike does have a tool kit included. I don't believe it is original, but it is complete for that year bike. It was repainted by its previous owner about 3 years ago. There is only one chip I've noticed. On the fuel tank, left side near the top where it starts to brake from the verticle to the horizontal. It's about a half inch long and quarter inch wide. It appears that the attachment points for the Honda emblems had been filled over before it was painted. If you are looking to restore the bike, this could be easilee fixed. Everything electrical works as designed. All lights, horn, and starter. The battery is about 3 years old and very strong. The gauges are original and work as designed. To the best of my knowledge, the mileage is true. The condition/appearance of the gauges would confirm this. New throttle cable, NOS clutch cable. Front brake was rebuilt and flushed. Front brake works well. Both front and back brake pads are good. Mechanically, everything works. The engine is strong. Good compression, does not burn any oil. I just changed the oil last year. New plugs, NOS points & condensers. Plug wires are good and flexible. The air filters are after-market and new. The bike is somewhat cold hearted in that if the temp is in the 40's or low 50's it's a trifle slow to start. I think part of this has to do with the timing (needs reset). Of course, once it warms up it kicks right over. It starts with either the kick starter or the electrical starter. I put on a new fuel petcock and new tygon fuel lines. Also rebuilt the carbs last year. The brakes are good. Rebuilt the front caliper and flushed the line, works great. Both front and back brake pads are good. Suspension is good. Both wheel rims have some spots of rust. Mostly cosmetic. Wheels appear to run true. Bearings are good. Chain is good. Tires are about 4 years old, no cracks, no dry rot, good tread. The bike is currently registered, but the inspection ran out 8/31. If you are interested, I encourage questions, and will answer to best of my knowledge.
