I am selling this 1955 Chevy First Series 4400 1 1/2 ton truck. I bought this from a local farmer who was going to scrap it if he didnt sell it. I love old Chevy trucks but I don't know much about this series. I did google this truck and found out that the 1955 first series is very rare. They were only made till March of 1955! I don't know how many were made but it couldn't have been many. I just couldn't stand to see it scrapped. I prefer the 55-66 body styles personally and was looking for a 55-59 when I found this but my wife won't let me keep all the strays that I bring home. I will tell you everything that the farmer told me and what I have seen on the truck myself. Please look at the pictures and if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. This truck was in the same family since 1958. When it was new, the truck was taken to Mooresville Welding in Mooresville IN to have the bed built and installed. It is the same bed that is on there today. The milage is actual. For the last 30 years or so it has only been driven twice a year. In the early 1960's the orginal engine was taken out at the dealership and replaced with a 265ci. This truck starts every time and does not smoke or knock. All the lights work but to get the headlights to come on you might have to fiddle with the switch a little. The floor pan has been patched (see pics). The windshield is cracked (see pic). The only body filler that I have found is right on the drivers side rear cab corner. There isnt much there, looks like a few small holes that were filled in. To start the truck you still have the peddle on the floor. All the gauges work without a problem, The seat was re-apolstered a few years ago and looks great. The side roll up windows appear to be plastic. Like I said, I know nothing about this style of truck but I dont think it was an option on trucks to have this. The PTO driven dump bed works great and without any leaks. There are a couple of minor dings on the body but nothing that would take a lot of time to fix. This truck is in great shape. I have rebuilt many trucks over the years and I have to say that I don't think I have ever had a truck start off in this great condition. There is no doubt in my mind that if I were to keep it, it would be better than new by next spring. I am really hoping that someone will buy it and bring it back to its former glory. My reserve has been set low to cover what I have invested in it. Buyer must pay a deposit of $500 within 24hrs of the close of the auction. The balance of the price must be paid within 72 hrs. I will not carry insurance on this truck after it is sold. If buyer wants, I will work with buyers insurance company to make sure that the truck can be covered. I will not be responsible or liable for any damage to the truck after it is sold. I also have a neighbor that drives a semi and can transport this truck for you. I will pass along his number if you need it and buyer will be responsible for any and all transportation costs. Seller will not deliver truck or pay to have it shipped to you. I dont want to sound like a jerk, I just keep hearing horror stories about issues with non payers and people who try to take advantage of people.
